Can’t you try it on any hunk of metal?
Did you ever see the almost instant chrome paint?

I could but I need a coil cover anyhow. Been doing a bit of powder coating and beginning to really like it better than paint.

I have an alpha white one for ya Glen.
can I buy it from you Bryan?
LC
No. You can have it though.
I'll give you a PM. Thanks

LC when I talked to my powder coater about chrome he said it was difficult to get it looking good. It has a tendency to. create rises and valleys that give it a shadowy look so you'll want to pay particular attention to your prep work. He suggested metallic silver as an alternative. It might be worth trying both.

That is why I want something flat to be able to apply the coating. If it looks bad I can media blast it off and try again. Round surfaces would be harder I think.

I did the powder coat called Super Chrome, if you go to the build section you can see how it turned out. It is more like a silver than a chrome. MACAWS has the same color on his rims but do not know what color it was called for his rims. It does look good to me, but it is not even close to chrome.
I'm going to try Prismactic's Super Chrome with a gloss clear over it. I know it won't have the deep luster that real chrome has but it is a inexpensive way to try. I can do my own media blasting and powder coating so it just cost me for materials and time.

Thanks to BryanL have a coil cover, looks like I owe him and his misses a dinner when we get out to the Portland area next year.
Plan on taking pictures of the process so others may be able to do the same. That is if it works out decent.
LC
That was quick. As for the dinner I'll be looking forward to Roakes by then.
Mouth is already watering.....
LC
Display MoreTime flies and I walk, sometimes with a limp. However, I took two tries and a bit of waiting to finally get a clean results.
Then I tried another under hood piece.....
What do you all think of my first chrome powder coating attempt?
And again a big thanks goes out to BryanL .
LC
Looks good.....is it possible to use a fine sandpaper to smooth it out. And them maybe polish it like paint?
Lookin' good LC! I see a new career in your future.

No, powder coating does not act like paint at all. I tried sanding and buffing and just had a mess.

Hope not. Does kind of look to me more like a black chrome.

I didn't really get that from the pics but I happen to like black chrome. And I know you're not looking for work...
