  • I,m inclined to agree with Orangeman on this one , fuel cell technology is an up and coming thing with huge potential , I don't know that it will obsolete all electric within five years , but we will see a huge market share shift from electric to fuel cell.

Hell , with all the current governments around the world supporting electric and many nations MANDATING their auto industries support electric, you just know right there that applecarts about to crash , no government anywhere has ever proven successful at forward thinking and mandating their idea of of a required change, INDUSTRY ALWAYS SHIFTS AND AUTO CORRECTS, AND BIG GOVERNMENT IS ALWAYS CAUGHT BEHIND THE EIGHT BALL AGAIN !

  • And then she says they are going to concentrate on electric cars and something else that the American public will not buy. Why do they not build what the American public will buy and with a fair price. It is bad to say that my next vehicle may have to be a truck, standard cab of which they build very few of and only in the work truck if you can find one. There will never be an electric car in my future.

No kidding. I live in a fairly populated area. I was looking for a truck to use for work. I looked across four cities only to find ELEVEN standard cab long bed trucks. That's new and used over my entire region. It's sad. Nobody needs a work truck cause nobody wants to work.

My girlfriend loves SS more than me but can't drive a manual laugh-squaredlaugh-squared Lucky me!!!

  • I have a 2017 Silverado with the LS3 and an 8 speed trans.,

Fuel mileage is actually pretty good 22ish on the highway

But on the other hand my 2015 Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.0 sucks fuel like it has a hole in the tank - 14 on the highway and 8 when towing.

Mine too. I have an 05 2500 HD that I have had posted for sale for 60% of the book price for over a month. I can't give that gas hog away. I get 8mpg in it towing or not. Ugh!!

  • It may be happening in your corner of the country however it's not happening here at all or in the less dense areas (read: most) of the rest of the US .... and neither are any of the sentiments you ascribe to our "offspring".

Orangeman, here are some starting points if you wish to research further what I have been saying. I am not liking this trend any more than you.

My apologies, I meant five years once a major vendor adopts adding refiling equipment at their stations, not five from today. Right now it is not viable outside of CA, really the greater LA area where the test filling stations are already installed.

GM is playing with a whole lot of government contracts, grants, and subsidies (remember we still own part of them) and you may be surprised how many oil companies are in talks with the feds regarding fuel cell tech .....

Edited once, last by Orangeman ().

  • And now the rest of the story is coming out, kind of looks like they do not want to build what is selling. Let us look at this in a little different way and just look at one model that Chev. built for years and the quality of the car. Let us look at the older models of the Monty Carlo think the last that ran at NASCAR (which is another story by itself) It seems that even today there are still more of these models on the road every day in my area. The newer models must to have been junk (GM) so they are already off of the road. There were a lot of them sold even in my area. In a days riding between Charleston and Myrtle Beach about 100 miles you will be lucky to see even one of them on the road. GM did it to themselves. Then today I find out that their profits were way up in sales this past year, guess what was carrying them, the sells of trucks and SUV's. So today I am listening to the back story on GM.

  • Several issues here...

#1. Concerning slumping harley sales.....probably has to do with the price of a at best 3 season vehicle. Every video I see from overseas that shows people driving two wheel vehicles...they aren’t big touring bikes....they are small rice burners....don’t forget how much fuel costs overseas....they sell it by the quart/ liter.

France which is socialist where everyone gets everything for “free”.....is having riots now because they have to pay the piper....30 cents tax was added to fuel prices last year and now they want 25 more cents....these ”socialist kids” think all the free stuff (college, healthcare, retirement) comes from money made out of thin air...and nobody really ultimately has to pay for it...and you wonder why they don’t buy vehicles and houses and don’t marry? That means you would have to give up the job of protesting capitalism and get a real job.

#2 new vehicle prices today are more than what I paid for my house in 1984...so are they pricing themselves out of the market? And if you look at the commercials now they are offering savings of $10-12,000. Does that reflect what the actual cost should really be?

The only way I see an electric car in my future is if there is no other choice. There are gasoline stations on every corner....how long before the same can be said for charging stations?

#3 ...I used to be a union steelworker....they backed democrats....so does the auto workers... president trump just gave the steelworkers 25% tariff on foreign steel to save steel jobs and auto jobs...but they still backed the Democrats in the midterms. He denounced Carrier for closing plants....they still voted for democrats.. now the auto workers that lost their jobs wants trump to fix the problem...but they still voted for democrats.....does anyone see a problem here? Next election they will continue to vote democratic. And cry because trump couldn’t save their job...which the democrats killed and really don’t care if you lost your job.....do you hear them trying to save the jobs on TV? .......CRICKETS CHIRPING...... hurray for me and screw you....thanks for your vote I still have my high paying job and wonderful heath care and fantastic retirement package...

Why would the internationals still want you to back the democrats, At the cost of losing your job? Too much back scratching...there is too much money involved with the top union officials.....who are just trying to protect their jobs....kinda sound like corporate greed....doesn’t it....they will collect higher unuion dues from the very last employees..

#4...Corporate greed dictates the status of your employment...the bottom line and investors returns .....not sales or motor size or gas or electric. The loyalty is not to workers or quality products....or NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING would ever be made in China. Proof positive that product quality or employees wellbeing doesn’t matter.

#5...China is stealing our intellectual property because we gave them the blueprints (which costs us millions in research and development and millions of man hours) for free so corporations can save a nickel and cut your benefits. Corporate greed companies are cutting their own throat by doing this. That’s why your good paying jobs left the country. That’s why CEOs make millions to your hundreds....he’s protecting the bottom line for stock holders....not for your future...even if he does a horrible job he’ll retire with millions which came off the skin of your back...while you collect unemployment.

  • I forgot to add that NAFTA signed by Bill Clinton killed many good paying auto and steel jobs....over 100,000 steel workers lost their jobs....doesn’t sound like a big deal until you realize that for every steelworker that lost a job 14 people in related jobs lost theirs....that means about 1.5 million workers altogether. Not counting the many other jobs that were lost to Mexico, China and Japan.

Trump just now is signing the new renegotiated trade deal...USMCA

That is why buying American is still just as important today as it ever was...
