What is the deal with these T40 bolts? I have removed and re-installed a few of them but one of them got so tight that it broke off half way in and today another one got so tight I left it as far as it went in. The one that broke is in the back cover behind the license plate. The other one that is halfway in is one of two holding the battery cover. Very frustrated with this today.

Highly unusual. Cross threaded?
Almost none of mine go in and out easy, it’s slways a fight. Don’t know if it’s from power tools or not.
-
When I remove any of the bolts I put a dab of never seize on the threads and if they seemed a bit snug coming out I always run a tap down the hole to clean the threads up and also check the bolt and clean up the threads on it if needed
-
Polaris uses very cheap cheese to make their fasteners!

there is a joke to be made here about lube and tightness, but.....
Yeah, just do yourself a favor and buy some replacement bolts.

Yeap... Broke one of my t40 bolts... It takes nothing to break one. Gotta go cheap and make those profits. Next step in making the slingshot is renting a back room from Harley at their Pakistan location. Gotta love those slave labor camps.

I did a long search for these bolts from somebody else and I couldn’t find them except from Polaris suppliers.

I have started removing all of mine a swapping for black automotive fender bolts. They are steel and they are tapered. These are the bolts that have the washer on it that cant come off.

If you have a source/part number, it would help us lazy folk!

Do they rust?
-
they will rust if you dont dip them in paint and let them dry.

Rust is good.....Rust is Gods Loctite......

No rust, but SS is not as strong. Of course, these T40 fasteners should not need so much torque as to break them to hold properly.

Unless it's made in China...

Funny I was going to come in here and ask the same thing about those T40 screws. Have a couple broken ones and one missing on my Sling. Anyone ordered them from Polaris? I bet they are might proud of their marshmallow bolts and want $8 each for them. Anyone find them from an online vendor?

I recently needed some bolts and local Slingshot dealers all seemed to be out of stock. I went to a local used ATV dealer who also handled Polaris ATVs and he ordered the bolts for me at a lower cost than the Slingshot dealers wanted for the same bolt.
When ordering any parts for the Slingshot, don't assume the site you usually use will have the lowest cost. I recently priced several different items and found that different sites had different prices and shipping varied, too. You may find one part cheaper at one site and another part cheaper at another site and shipping can vary as well, so it pays to comparison shop. -
PM me an address and I'll send you a couple. I keep adding mods / taking stuff off my SlingShot and end up with extras left over. (Is that supposed to happen?)
Or I'll be at Ozarks with all the left over parts trying to get rid of them. . . . A couple of beers could get me to get rid of a lot of them. Just sayin'.
