A friend of mine had a picture of his 'watch dog' in the same position on the front door and a note that the owner carried a GUN.

I saw that. What a wonderful dog and doing so much good. I'm hoping that he is light enough that he won't trigger a devise. I said a prayer that he doesn't get hurt.

I am starting to hear the words "Covid dog" more and more. Are these dogs that were gotten during covid then when Covid is over the "owners" get rid of the pet??? If so...
First off - God bless you for taking him in and giving him a new home.
Second - the original "owners" Or should I say renters, if they abandoned him there is a special place for people like that....

what seems to be happening up here ( might be the same there) is people were suddenly working from home. They decide its a perfect time for a dog, not really thinking about it like they should.
He was not abandoned. The lady we got the dog from was single, living in a basement apartment, and she already had an 18month old husky. Add in GS, that is now 94lbs.
People not thinking it through is the problem.🤬🤬The story we got on why she was needing to rehome might not have been true, based on some of the other stuff she told is we found out was a lie afterwards. Our thoughts were this is a big dog, lots of energy, not trained, and she could not handle him. Which would make sense. He is a handful, and training is slowly working. But we are happy and so is he.
Add in he only knew one language and it wasn’t english.
We had just lost our other shepherd in July and were not actively looking, but you know how things happen.

I've heard it in much the same way. People were working from home full time due to covid. They got pets then suddenly they were required to return to the office (even for one or two days a week). Many of the dogs only knew the situation where the owner was home all day. Many dogs suddenly got frightened with severe separation anxiety.
