true story. Some time back here in Palm Springs a guy got one of these "you owe taxes and if you dont pay now you will be arrested" phone calls. This was several years back and the guy knew it was a scam and he responded by telling the guy to f-off and some other choice words. Well apparently he pissed the scammer off and the scammer used one of those pre paid cell phoned and called the Palm Springs police when the police answered he told them he was the guy he had just tried to scam and he went on to tell the police he had just killed his wife.
This was the first time anyone had "swatted" the P.S. Police so they assumed this was a real call, they sent swat to the guys house and surrounded it, they then got the guy out in the street in his underwear hand cuffed him and arrested him. He told them he had not made the call and that he wasnt even married. At this point the police still believed that it was him who made the call and when there was no dead wife they assumed he must have mental issues and committed the guy for mental observation.
eventually all the charges were dropped and the guy was released but he ended up winning a huge settlement in court for what the police had done
Anyway our police and this guy learned the hard what swatting is - and when I read this story i decided it is just best to hang up on these calls and not to be a smart ass - all it takes is for them to have a pre paid phone and they can cause you a great deal of grief

Both myself and my wife got calls last week from the Canadian revenue service and they left a message by robo call that a court case has been filed against us and if we don't respond a arrest warrant will be issued and we will go directly to jail. The worst part about this is some people that don't understand or comprehend these scams fall victim and can loose their life savings.

You guys actually listen to robo calls? The second I get one of those calls I hang up and block the number.

if you have an android phone you have to install this app. It will use a database to identify and block those calls. And if someone is calling that is not in your contact list it can go out and search the web for any hits on that number and display then while its ringing. It freaking works ...You can see it has 100,000,000 downloads. And it has a 4.5 rating. So it's pretty dang good.

I keep getting those emails where they try to scare you into sending them bitcoin by saying they have your password and showing it to you (and they do actually have it most of the time) to some off the wall site you visited once long ago. So it makes you start worrying. Then they say they have embedded your computer with software to turn on your camera and record you watching porn sites.
Then they say they will send the video of you to all your business partners and loved ones if you dont send the money within 24 hours.
I wish I had the time to watch the amount of porn that the emails say I watch. Heck I would give them a great video to email to everyone. It would be a sad romantic comedy.... mainly just sad....
If anyone gets an email like this most likely your were part of the Home Depot or Target computer breach information breach. That was immediately how I knew it was. The legit password they showed me was the one I used for those accounts. Later I googled it and confirmed I was correct.
