So my project today was to install a shift adapter with an extension and carbon fibre shift ball on my SS. Got the factory shifter off and popped the plastic off the rubber boot after removing it, no problem. When I went to loosen the set screw on the factory shift mount however, my allen key twisted up like a black licorice Twizzler. I even tried a six inch piece of narrow pipe as a lever and the damn screw won't budge. Ideas???

Go for a nice long ride to get the transmission hot or take a soldering iron and heat up the set screw, it has some locking compound on it that if they used too much requires a little heat and steady pressure to break it loose ...

I hope that when you're done that your name isn't a reflection of how it works.

Slingmods suggested an allen socket and long handle and a quick jerk as opposed to steady pressure. Hmmmmmm...

If you do that you had better be sure the allen wrench is in all of the way. You can tear up more s--t than you want to try and fix, beside maybe hurting yourself!!!

You can also use a soldering iron if you have one to get the allen head bolt hot which helps loosen the thread lock they put on those.

Well, followed Slingmods' recommendation, sort of. Used a better quality allen key and a six inch piece of pipe like I did before but instead of steady pressure, I gave it a huge whack with a rubber mallet... That got it moving but I had to use the pipe until it was spun completely out. Talk about lock-tite overkill. The end result is killer.

Apparently they forgot the thread lock on mine, it almost fell out before I removed it.

Think they used yours when they made mine as well ;O) That was a bitch to get off...

This does not add a third seat to the Slingshot... -
At least you're not adding 4 more speeds to the SS, not to hit on SS brothers but it's not my thing to see 4 speed indicator on knob and 4 more on console.....8 speed SS !!####however it may be!

You do know the SS is a five speed don't you? Snark!
