:REDSS: The ghost of SLingshot past ......

  • Before I had my drivers license I would hitchhike to go duck hunting. I never had a problem catching a ride even though I was carrying a shotgun. And hitchhiking was an acceptable form of transport for young teens.

  • I can still remember the morning school prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, and getting my come-uppings for being "the class clown". When those went away, guess what moved right on in?!?!?!? Yep!!! Times...they are a changin'!!!!

  • I still get that funny feeling in my stomach whenever I see a paddle!!!! I had more than my share...but I deserved it, most of the time. Okay, all of the time!!!

Agree! I graduated HS in 1974. During my senior year the following happened. Due to high grades, National Honor Society member etc. I came home with a letter from my principal nominating me for "Outstanding Teenagers of America". The very next day I got busted for smoking in the boys room & the principal paddled my ass HARD with a paddle that looked exactly like the one in your pic. I then carried home another letter from my principal that explained my 3-day suspension. My Dad's leather belt on top of the paddle wounds is something I'll never forget!!! LOL!!!

  • OH YEAH!! The ass whuppin ya got at school was nuthin compared to "wait til your father gets home" from your mom

Wow my mom use to say the very same thing! There was a paddle, just for me, in the kitchen drawer. =O

  • [/quote]And that is why I got out of Education...and over and about that the friends that I have who are still in education really don't have the wherewithal to stop into a
dealership and write a check for a new Slingshot. As a small residential painting contractor I have been able do some of fun things in life. It's time to put EDUCATION back in the Education Systems.............

  • I had to walk a mile to the bus stop in the dark, snow, rain etc......Now these buses stop every 10-15'! God for bid the kids move to a neutral spot for 1 stop.... And Im talking High School!!

Kids sit in car finish there conversation w/ mom & dad while bus holds up traffic , then they get out of car and drag ass..

Bus holds up everyone for 5 minutes while the kids wait for there order in DD's!! (I shit you not-this is a reason I leave extra early!!!)

I would ride my bike down a main street to Cumberland farms with a friend @ 9:30 @ night for candy in the mid 80's...Never an issue.

Could ride my quads in the woods and up & down street and cops would wave, now they'll arrest you (unless your an inner city kid riding wheelies down a main city st, then it's all right) & Yes I see it almost daily.

  • How many of you peeled yourself off the front seat cause you were laying on the back dash????? AND one of the worst for me was when momma said "get out there and bring me a switch" and you knew if you brought back one too small you were in bigger trouble :( How did we all survive :?::?::?:

I got to laugh, that reminds me of a funny story. When I was maybe 12 I had a mini bike, lived in a residential neighborhood with lots of dead end streets and hardly any traffic. Never wore a helmet either. One day the cops caught me riding the mini bike on the streets and escorted me home, made me walk the mini bike with them following along in the patrol car. Took me right up to the front door of my house and knocked on the door. My mom came to the door and they proceeded to tell her about me breaking the law, etc. My mom's response was classic, she said, "don't you guys have anything better to do". I'll never forget that, I thought we were both going to get arrested. Right on mom!

I would lay across the front seat while my mom rubbed my back in our wood paneled station wagon
