Tires...what are you running?

  • Anyone getting over 12-14,000 miles on a rear tire is doing really good. :) Us boosted guys get around 4-5,000 usually. But spinning the tire is a lot of fun.

  • We are coming up due for a rear tire and even though we are very happy with the Yokohama YK740 GTX tires we have on the front, Yokohama does not manufacture this tire in 255/35-R20.

We have come to liking our Yokohama YK740GTX tires, (Discount Tire), so much on the front that we have decided to do the 245/40R20 on the rear, (replacing the stock 255/35R20.) I do not believe that the difference in size should cause us any issues?

What have we come to liking about these tires?

    1) They have been providing excellent wet and dry traction at all temperatures.

    2) They have been the quietest tires we have tried so far.

    3) And the big surprise is that they have provided us the best ride of tires we have tried before.

I need to confess that I was really hesitant to installing an asymmetrical tire on the rear, but you really need to be looking for and paying attention to notice it.

  • Numbers should be good. Glad you found what you were looking for.

  • What's the widest tire I can put on the rear with rim size 20x10.5"? I currently have a 305 30zr20 mounted on my 2015 SL.

Most manufacturer's will specify the minimum and maximum as well as the recommended wheel widths for their tires by size. Here's an example of the larger 20" tire vs wheel sizes for the Nitto 555 G2 -

As shown, Nitto recommends at least a 10.5" wheel width for your tire size if you were running a Nitto 555 G2.

Check your tire manufacturer's website for your specific tire model and size.
