Let's talk trailers and trailer hitches. Manufactures, owners and installers of all available equipment please chime in. I'm looking to pull a triller with gear weighing about 200-400 lbs on long 400+ mile trips.

I pulled a pull behind motorcycle trailer from Michigan to Utah and Colorado and back. Never had a problem or even knew it was back there. I was loaded with tool boxes, enough clothes for two people for two weeks, a full size cooler on the tongue loaded with ice and drinks. The Slingshot does a great job pulling a trailer but I knew it would as I pulled a trailer with a Goldwing for many thousands of miles.
What hitch did I use you ask? Well the only frame mounted hitch out there the Wycked hitch of course. I did the install myself it took about 4 hours from start to finish taking my time following Rich's install video.

The Alpha hitch works great and is your cheapest entry into hitches. We have in excess of 8000 miles on ours and it serves our needs perfectly thus far.

The Wycked Hitch is an outstanding product as well. It does cost a bit more, but there is by far more to it and has a higher weight limit.

It comes down to two criteria.....
What is your budget?
and
What are you towing?
From there, read the other threads and make your decision.

I use the wicket Hitch and love it. I don't use it for towing I use it to mount my luggage carrier.

Please see the following threads that have already been established. You can probably find some pretty good answers here.

I would think sticking out that far you should have a red flag hanging on it..

I'm guessing your talking about @mytoy setup. He has the rear lights on his luggage carrier so no red flag would be needed.

Years ago I had a real wooden whiskey barrel mounted on a trailer hitch that I made into a storage unit...very similar...brings back memories...
If I were you I would look into shortening the bar to get it closer to the bike to lesson the bounce and stress on the hitch and the bar. I imagine it's flapping up and down that far out...I had to put a big hook from my bumper to the barrel to help stabilize it ..those barrels are heavy.
Looking at it you might want to have the bar welded farther under the basket to get it real close. So the very front of the basket actually sits over the hitch.

I'm going to put a fifth wheel hookup on my slingcopter and fly my trailer around the country!

I used my setup for over 2,000 miles and had no issues with it. Yes it bounces a little when you go over railroad tracks and speed bumps. It would do the same when mounted to a car hitch.

For you Navy brothers !

Look at the Bushtec trailer hitch. I had it installed on my sling and pulled a trailer to SSITS without any problems. It actually helped me keep from hydroplaning. It attaches to the frame and I'll take 90-120lb Tongueweight. Hauled about 600lb gear with no problems
