Color has been tough...I think the black and orange is sharp, but getting a lot of grief from buds...black they say...but want some color...lol.

I just picked up a 'used' 2016.5 SL with 3.8 miles for $17k with help from fellow forum members. Right place at the right time. Well, not the right place - it's 1700 miles away from me but the member who found it and helped make the deal will deliver it to me when I return from vacation soon. I haven't even met him yet! The brotherhood I found here has allowed me to make that leap of faith. There are other factors involved but my point is that deals can be made if you have the time and patience to look and the willingness and ability to pull the trigger when they come along.

I don't care what anyone here says, the 2016.5 model the comes in TURBO SILVER is faster than the red ones! It is the faster paint that's why they called it TURBO!

I remember thinking that way. And 5 figures of mods later I'm still buying them.
Just test drove my first slingshot...OMG. I'm hooked and looking to purchase the "mid-life crisis" vehicle. I am open to suggestions from owners or other seekers. I'm thinking of the SL model as I'm not sure the SLR gives that much more for the extra money. Any help to make a wise decision would be awesome. A lot of money for a toy, but what fun it is to ride!

I'm in the same boat! I would be looking now and over the coming months as the dealers would be looking to get rid of the 2017 models and you should be able to find a good price new! Same as you, I don't really want a used model. I really wanted the Midnight Cherry model, but want the new ride command in it!...lol. So I just might wait till next October when the new Electric Blue SLR is hopefully going for 1.99% for 72mo. If you are looking for soon and financing is an issue, I would bet around October they will be doing better on financing or around that time frame. I am seeing the Black and Silver SLR 2017 model for about 26k new, that is tempting!
First off the only way to get in any game is to jump in with both feet.
Second don't listen to your buddies unless they are willing to detail it for you black is not a color its a career you will spend more time cleaning and polishing than riding.
Third get the one you want and build it the way you want and enjoy it the way you want.
I've said this many times to people that are really interested in my Slingshot. If you are really interested in it, and can afford it without putting a strain on your budget, you will not regret buying one of these! I have over 20,000 miles on mine in 14 months, and it was parked over 5 month in the winter! When I bought mine, there was only one 8 miles away, and it belonged to a friend of mine. There are now 7 of them in a ten mile circle, the other 5 are all friends of mine that bought after seeing my SS and talking to me about it.
I should be getting a commission from Polaris....

I say buy a base and build it your way
everything is the same except for paint stereo and wheels
The three things you will change first
Base. You can then add your own windscreen, radio (that works) and wheels for cheaper than Polaris will do it for.
The problem I have with the base is the color, black. Yea you can spend more money and have it wrapped or something, but I don't want to mess around with that. For the minor things that I want, its already installed stock and I don't have to mess with it in the end. The few things that I want are: Nav, Internal Lights, better shift knob, open air intake and that is already done in the SL LE for the most part or SLR. I don't really plan to do much after that....or so I hope not! 
But I can usually envision what I want to do and don't see much after that. My current motorcycle, I knew what I wanted to add when I bought it and did so and haven't touched it since with any other mods. Probably the same will actually happen with the slingshot. The only other thing that I can see wanting to add is maybe a different steering wheel and wing on the back and that is about it here. A turbo would be nice, but not sure of anyone around here doing mods like that and not worth 5k to me.

I just bought 2016.5 (yes 2016 and a half) saved $3000. That's the same people are asking kn Craigslist. I have had mine for a week and a half and I still loose sleep over wanting to go ride.

@jbos8 I bought and paid for the 2016 Black Pearil SE LE basically for the color which I LOVE, but knowing now what I know I would have bought a base, had it painted the way I wanted. The stock radio sucks to put it nicely, no radio reception at all, I hooked a SirrusXM to mine to fix that problem. Replaced tires right away with better gripping tires, and changed out the shocks with QA1's.
