  • Back during the Gulf War I think it was Target and Star Bucks would not support our troops. There was more to it than just that and besides at the time Target was owned by the French. To many years ago for me to remember all of the details. But I still do not buy from either one. Even if things are different now I will never buy from either one.

Sounds like I need to do some research. I never knew they were French owned or the war stuff.

Ok, I have your answers. Target was never French owned, it did expand into Canada(French?) and India, but has always remained an American Company that started as Good Fellows Dry Goods in 1902. It has bought and sold many other department stores, but has always remained headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Apperantly the "Not support troops" rumor stemmed from Target not allowing the Salvation Army to collect money, for veterans, on their properties.

At the time there was a two page story/editorial going around at the time with the whole story. I actually still have it somewhere because I do not throw that kind of stuff away. At the time Walmart would not allow anyone on their property either to collect money. The story on the coffee store was there were asked to contribute to our military people at the time and they would not, that is the part that I remember. All of it came out thru the unions at the time as I recall.

Might surprise some but I am not one to wear political gear or publicly flaunt my leanings due in part to mine and my Wife's careers but mostly the way I was raised. Support the country and our troops all day in public just not a party, issue stance, or candidate.

I also am not a fan of the the red hats, not because of any perceived symbolism just don't wear red (or now white) hats ..

    But this I like ...

If someone chooses to be offended that is not my problem but I think its subtle enough that they would need to be looking for a confrontation.

  • Make America and the Keep America ball caps do come in BLACK and BLUE. As of right now I have 8 different Trump ball caps, at least a different one for every day of the week. But then I have always worn ball caps.

  • This is what scares the heck out of me and the upcoming elections. I'm close to retirement. Social Security alone will not support a retirement. Over the years I've put as much as possible into a retirement fund. It will account for half my income in retirement. It's fine today. In fact I'm quite happy.

It wouldn't worry me if the Democratic Party was as it was 20 years ago. I was fine with Bill Clinton & I believe Jimmy Carter is one of the most genuine & kind persons ever to live. But todays Democratic Canadettes are not the same. They are so far deep into promising social programs for everyone. In my opinion to lock in votes (and their office) with disregard of the consequences. The systems and programs are already at its breaking point. There are no money trees of rainbow unicorns.

Within the last few days I have heard from multiple investment specialists including the founder of TD Ameritrade opinion if a Democrat gets into office a reasonable expectation of a 25% drop in the stock market. You can agree or disagree with this but for me and as much as I have to loose I have to worry.

The stock market accounts for half of my retirement income. As you withdraw money from a retirement account it earns less money that can't be replaced. In short the more you withdraw the less income you have. Thus for assurance the balance should be kept as high as possible in order to safeguard from running out.

In direct terms this is how it would affect me personally. I'm not wealthy. I would survive but ALL MY DISPOSABLE INCOME WOULD BE WIPED OUT. Any thought of a new slingshot would be out of the question. Its possible I could keep the one I have now, but only as is.The top I'm considering or any modifications, forget it. Maggie Valley, forget it. And that's just for the slingshot, so much more would be out of the question.

  • I like it. I've always been a fan of offset logos and always prefer subtle to flashy/bold.

  • This was also the reason I elected to get Sling II at this time and there was no way that I could beat the price. I will have a Slingshot until I can no longer drive as I do now at 72. As to the stock market my 401 pretty much stayed the same for over 6 years, even with what I was pulling out. But for the past roughly 1 1/2 years it has not kept up so I am now running on the negative side.

  • With the perfect retirement plan, unless you plan on supporting others, you should die broke - - - the hard part is the timing =O

I tell everyone that the perfect retirement is one dollar left in the checking account when you die.

  • Every miles I drive the Slingshot I get to 'subtract' and an hour of age.....Keep up my current rate I'll be a teenager soon.

On of the best things about driving the slingshot is the reactions. I went to the grocery store yesterday and as I pulled out of the parking lot I saw the reaction of an elderly woman that was priceless!

Too bad you just don't have time to take a picture!

actually the one reaction that I just don't understand is the honking - I get people going the other way that will honk, I get people crossing in front of me at an intersection that will honk and I get people I pass or who pass me who will honk - - - most times I manage to see them waving or giving me a thumbs up and I know they are just letting me know they like it, but then I can't help wonder what all the other people think - do the people around them think they are being honked at? I appreciate the attention and I like that people approve of my ride, but shouldn't honking be saved for when its needed and not for this?

I get the honk thing a lot. I think it's a quick action of approval. On one instance I did have someone come flying from behind just as I came out of my lane to pass (with my blinker on). Only to ask what it was. A fraction away from an accident.

No picture needed---just stop and take 'her' for a ride. All the girls 8 to 88 love the Slingshot. If a Gal is looking it over in a parking lot --- I put her in the drivers seat and take a picture with HER phone and than tell her she should send the picture to the other half and let him know the 'birthday' is coming. Probably caused a few questions????
