Did anyone else here notice the news this weekend that Bernie Sanders had to cut his staffs hours so that he could pay them $15 an hour?

What's going to happen to trades with workers currently making $15 -$18 an hour? How will they handle this when minimum wage is set at the same pay?

they will expect a raise - wouldn't you?

this is the problem - you raise the bottom and for things to work every level above the bottom must get a proportionate raise. if you dont move others up you are going to have very unhappy workers that wonder why they should work harder if the guy that just got hired is getting the same

The McDonalds near us uses these.. They have 6 running. Even during peak busy time there is usually only 1 actual person taking orders. So that was 3 jobs gone right there. So 6 machines took over the job of 3 people.

This is a never, ever when for the american people. People who are "living" off of food service wages used to be teenagers trying to make a buck until college.

OK, since I ranted a little let me give a little background:

My first job out of college was (1985) $14000/yr. Not much so I took a second job at Noble Roman's and a third at Zales Jewelers to make up the difference I needed.

I worked hard and found a different first job making $26000/yr after about a year. So I did not need both second jobs. Get the picture.

OK, OK. now start the oh the poor people who cannot (many choose not) work so many hours, well I did it and most can. My story is not unique I am no great person, but I worked hard and scraped for what I had to get better in life. I have been very blessed, very!!!!!, but I earned a lot of that blessing.

I refuse to use the self serve tellers. I make it a point to let the workers know when they try to get you to use them that they are killing their jobs. The saddest thing is the people that seem to use them don't work and are on government assistance.

I can definitely relate SlingRider (Jim) when I purchased our farm a few yrs ago, the bank laughed at me wanting to buy land. They said I needed 50% cash down, I worked my regular job 10hr days Monday to Thursday and 8 on Friday then headed to another job Friday night 6pm -6 am then Saturday morning another job for 7-3 and back in for another 6-6 followed by Sunday 7-3 did this for a yr and paid cash for my farm and told the bank to FU on needing 50%. You get out what you put into life, work hard -play hard and enjoy

$15 per hour minimum wage will put the screws to a lot of retired people. What's the minimum wage for people on social security?

That's more than a starting teacher, cop, firefighter makes, and not too far off what I was hired at when I took my current job at the University... except that I had to have a PhD and 10+ years experience even to apply.

Hell ! I retired in 2005 at $30 an hour and refused to work overtime.

Yea, this is the new one that just opened in Charleston. The Depot near me is an older store and I have had many conversations with the employees about this. I have done the same thing in Walmart with a full buggy because there were not enough registers open for the people trying to check out. I would think that if everyone just filled a buggy up every time they walked in the door and then left it at the front register and walked out. You Reckon it would make a difference

How can anyone look at this and not feel disgusted! I have no words. I took my parents out to dinner last week. My Mom is 81, she said that along the years everyone says that the next/current generation is ruining the country but this time it's real. What can I say, Mom is right.

America needs to look at this. Tough job is understated! How can these officers get up tomorrow and face this? Thank you officers!

They will continue to earn their wage; and the middle class will be eliminated. upper class vs minimum wage earners... it supports the democratic socialists agenda of creating 2 classes - "Them and Us"

If you even the playing field for everyone... and we become the 2 class society the dems so desperately want; then society eventually becomes dependant upon the government in unspecified / unforeseeable terms for education, financial aid and healthcare..... they ultimately gain a much more substantial means of control over the choices and freedoms of the people.

Now I remember why I quit posting on this thread... I have enough to be frustrated about without being reminded how F'd up the legislation and elected officials are.
