The Dems have no reason to negotiate right now. The recent polling indicates the country still blames Trump for the shutdown, which means the Dems look stronger for holding out... For now. What I think the dems are missing is Trump's IDGAF attitude. They believe he will offer better terms at some point in order to affect his popularity and chances of reelection.
Personally, I think they should have taken the deal. I think POTUS will swing left in the next election which would give dems the opportunity to find a solution in the 3 yr window provided.
Now, if the Dems wanted to look strong, and since Trump is bent over a barrel, they would be smart to develop an amnesty package for Dreamers and current illegal immigrants and overhaul immigration towards their side. They could then give Trump his budget, and put him in a bad negotiating position to say no.
But I'm a girl, what do I know.

with a senate that is even further right than it was before the last election I don't know how much the Democrats can do. whatever they push through the House also needs to get through the Senate and be signed by Trump
As to Trump I don't think he has a choice. if he is seen by his base as having caved on the wall he is done - - any chance he has at a second term will be over

After the 2016 polling fiasco do you think Trump gives 2 shits about polls??? He has offered a deal and the Dems just said NO. It would be stupid for him to offer more basically negotiating against himself. I think that middle America is a lot more in line with Trump than they are with Pelosi/Schumer..... time will tell all !

If Trump goes for it, i think the Senate will follow. And concur on the base, but I'm not convinced he cares about reelection.

in offering to extend DACA Trump has offered a compromise - and it is probably one of the few things he can offer without needing the Republican Senate to go along - DACA was created by Obama's executive order so I see no reason why Trump cant use the same method to deliver on this if the Dems agree
Frankly if I were a DACA person I would be yelling at the Dems "What are you waiting for? they have said this was a very important issue and now that its being offered - - - - - ???

Both sides have painted themselves into a corner and I would imagine they all are trying to figure a way out where they don’t lose face. We need another BS session on your porch so we could solve all this crap

Dems are holding out for more because they think they can. It's not a popular opinion right now, but I think they are right in that they can get more. What they need to do now, however is bring their own plan to the negotiating table. We'll see if they bite.
This is a perfect example of why the house changes hands so often. They cant get anything done when they control both houses, and they can't get anything done when they don't.

Supposedly all the DACA stuff Trump offered, is stuff he actually took away during his first 6 months in office. He doesn't need approval on that stuff, so who can trust he won't just reverse it back after the money is secured?

Is there actually a bill that has passed both houses that Trump could sign if he changed his mind about the wall?
seriously if the Democrats want to put the blame for this on Trump shouldn't they actually have a bill for him to sign?
Also like you said before if they really want this without the wall then they should write a good bipartisan bill that can get enough support in both chambers to be veto proof

I know they all, Trump included, were in verbal agreement before the shutdown, not 100% sure if the bill was written up or not. The bill they were all for was basically, "let's fund the government until Feb 8th", which is what I heard the bills that passed the House and are waiting on the Senate are. We are getting closer to that date the longer this goes on. That deadline made more sense before the holidays, now it just seems like a very silly, kick the can situation. The Dems should just make an offer of their own if they don't like Trumps offer.

I'm not a socialist or liberal Democrat. I'm about as far from that as you can get. I don't consider myself to be anything more than conservative (and somewhat libertarian) in most politics. But I can see a way that this can work for both sides, where no one loses and the American people win. Although I don't believe that is what any of those in Washington DC want... both sides want their own way and little give if any. But here's what I think could work, and restore some faith in politics for the rest of us.
If Pelosi and Schumer (neither one do I care for) were to agree to the wall with a provision to overhaul the Immigration where it would be easier and more streamlined for immigrants to come here legally, that would likely pass easily. We need immigration, why not try to bring those in that want to be productive, want a better life, want to assimilate to our culture? The wall will slow the Illegal crossings. While there is not a way to do accurate background vetting on all, chances are good that it will catch most that have committed serious crimes or are violent offenders. The wall is only a way to make it harder for the undesirable ones to get it.... gang members, drug runners and those that wish to do us harm. Put it up, but make it easier to come in legally for the ones that can better our country or truly need asylum.
Sadly, politics still appears to be divided into 2 groups that are unwilling to give.... only happy if it is a complete win for their side. And that is a travesty. America has always been conservative with a progressive side to the future. Those in DC should stop pandering to the fringes of America's extremes and work towards making it better here for the other 75% somewhere in the middle. -
