Conservative Politics & Daily Events Discussion

  • okay - lets think about that
If the Dems happen to nix Kavanaugh Trump will then nominate another person off of his well published list. This will once again be a conservative leaning Justice. So now do the Democrats do the same thing to this one as they have done to Kavanaugh? If they take control of congress they can vote against this person, but then again Trump will nominate another off the same list - - unless they can stall it until after Trump is gone they will just keep getting Trumps picks and how will the public react if they refuse to send any of them to the court? They are stuck with Trump and his picks for at minimum another 2 years - - - do they really think they can push this out that far hoping that Trump is not re-elected? and if they do push it that far could it back fire and actually help Trump get re-elected?

And if in the end and they do push it out until a democrat can pick what do they think the right will do to that person

This thing has already gotten very ugly, but I suspect if Kavanaugh is not confirmed it's going to get much uglier

You are looking at them as interchangeable just because of who is picking them. Didn't Trump already get a justice approved?

Honestly, I think Kavanaugh if presented with the Kavenaugh that showed up to that questioning panel in his own courtroom he would have slapped himself with contempt of court and given himself a few days in prison and a fine to think about how he conducted himself.

I can gaurantee the Dems will find fault in whoever Trump puts forth, they always do. I'm sure somebody on that list can compose themselves professionally throughout the process, not have a questionable background and most importantly not blow their bi-partisan cover. ;)

  • considering the fact that every potential Justice that is on Trumps list is very likely to rule the same way on any major issue that would come up before the Supreme Court they are pretty much interchangeable

this is why he picked them and put them on his list and it is why the left will be against every single one of them

The only way Trump picks someone the Dems like is to pick someone that isnt interchangeable with those on the list and doing that would be political suicide

Trumps first pick was always going to be the easiest one to get confirmed simply because it didnt really change the balance of power - each and every pick after that one will have a much bigger impact on the courts future

  • As a side thought, if you think the left is fighting now wait until Trump is picking someone to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Replacing her with a conservative will be fought as if allowing it was the end of the world

and from the perspective of the far left wanting to advance their policy it would be the end of the world

  • All the Dems are saying after his apparent rage during his hearing he does not have the temperament to be a Supreme Court Justice. With the evidence presented in which at the very worst he has done is groping and drinking too much beer in high school. As Jesus said “let any of you without sin cast the first stone”. The man has left his adolescent days behind and lead an exemplary life that not many could aspire to. How many of us could have our life since high school examined under a microscope and not come up short some place - especially with powerful people out to destroy you??

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

  • I understand the political stances and the balance of the court @edwardaneal. My point which seems to ALWAYS get missed in this thread is that each person on both sides is an individual(not interchangeable). They may vote the same as others on most topics, not all topics and they act, think and respond differently from each other in different situations, if you pay attention.

(D)Chris Coons and (R)Jeff Flake for instance spoke as individuals who think, speak and act differently than others in their respective parties. Respectfully, humbly and from their hearts while others just beat their party drums. Others step out from the fray in other situations. People are not interchangable, there is always better and worse within the same group.

The past does not determine who a person is today, I grant you that and said that of Kavenaugh before. However, he did lie, mislead and lose his composer to the committee LAST WEEK.

  • New family rules for kids....no activities, don't date GIRLS, Never consider partying, Never touch a person & Never enjoy life

    Because..…..

30-40 years down the road you never know when a bitch Dem / LIB will go after your "childhood" or "early adult" years, BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THERE ALL PERFECT ANGELS AND Have no Dirt, the way they act TODAY PROVES THAT & THERE CHARACTER..... :whistling:

Point taken. I guess when it comes to politics and the political parties I have become very cynical in my old age. Where in my youth I once saw great differences I now see smoke and mirrors and talk without action. Two parties that are really one working together to keep people divided

frankly I think the lefts objections over Kavanaugh are more about keeping the pot stirred and people fighting than it is about expecting to get someone better

Its all about the politics of keeping power

You all have a great day now - I think I am going to excuse myself from this thread for the foreseeable future - after all Politics Suck and I would rather talk about the things that actually bring us together - like mods :)

Don’t go - I know politics can be frustrating but if we don’t stay engaged in what is happening to us we become mushrooms. I would like to think that a lot of our brothers on the forum read this thread but don’t comment. If they read what is said here and they bring it to the attention of a couple of their friends and then they bring it to a couple of their friends, on and on .... we have done a good thing. Just food for thought....isn’t it amazing the lack of liberals that do not debate here? We had one that would quickly fall to personal insults during the Trump/Hillary campaign and just disappeared after Trump won. IMO the reason we have conservatives mainly posting here is because we have lived long enough to see all the pitfalls of things like socialism - free this, free that - ain’t free - somebody somewhere has to pay! Ain’t many things good about getting older but seeing the world the way it really is is again frustrating but the clarity is a gift.

  • What did he lie about? Serious question? @WOLF

By all accounts, he drank to excess yet stated he never did.

"Devil's Triangle" is not a drinking game like quarters.

The drinking age in Maryland was 21 back then, not 18 as he stated in a poor attempt at suggesting he didn't break the law by drinking in college.

    Are they huge lies? NO

Are they lies under oath? Yes

Were there more? Yes, a bunch of little ones and misleading statements, I just can't think of them at the moment. He seemed to channel his inner Trump and unnecessarily lie about things that are common knowledge, except he did it under oath.

It is also possible he lied about attempted rape. We'll have to see if the FBI finds more concrete proof.

  • Where I have a problem is with the fact that a person can say they were assaulted and then say they dont know exactly when it happened and they cant say exactly where it happened, they also cant say how they got there or how they got home. they do say who was in the room, but those people say they dont remember it happening or being there

how can a person prove they didnt do something when the accuser isnt required to say when or where it happened?

its impossible, Mr Kavanaugh has detailed calendars / diaries showing where he was and what he was doing 90% of the time, but they are useless because she isnt required to say when or where

If they can do this to this man and get away with it - - what can they do to someone like you or me? - - is this going to become the new standard to go after someone for sexual assault in this new me too era?

frankly every man in this country should be terrified if they get away with this - - if they do we will be at the mercy of any woman we have ever crossed paths with who might want some attention

  • By all accounts, he drank to excess yet stated he never did.

"Sometimes I had too many beers," Judge Brett Kavanaugh said in his opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Sometimes others did. I liked beer. I still like beer. But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out"

"Devil's Triangle" is not a drinking game like quarters.

Typically its a drinking game more like beer pong on a long table with a ball .... but can be played on a smaller table with shot glasses and quarters....

The drinking age in Maryland was 21 back then, not 18 as he stated in a poor attempt at suggesting he didn't break the law by drinking in college.

The Drinking age in Maryland for beer and wine changed from 18 to 21 in July of 1982 ...... the drinking age quote being used against him was from the Fox interview when they where talking about drinking at high school parties ... specifically the summer of 1982 .....

"Yes, there were parties, and yes, the drinking age was 18," Kavanaugh told the Fox host Martha MacCallum. "And yes, the seniors were legal and had beer there. And yes, people might have had too many beers on occasion. And people generally in high school — I think all of us have probably done things we look back on in high school and regret or cringe a bit."

So while only half right, since the "Seniors where legal" for only some of the summer he never stated he was legal, only that the seniors had beer at the parties and that he drank ... knowing the year being discussed, his age, and that he was not a senior at this time if you want to read in to that him alluding to being legal even though he was still under 18 I guess you can, an argument can be made either way, but it is far from clear ......

But again he was a minor... so if anyone thinks the FBI went anywhere even near anything from his high school years other than the specific allegation made by Dr. Ford you are going to be disappointed ....

    ............ nerd-squared

  • Sorry @Orangeman, he used the drinking age line in the committee hearing. I watched almost all of his questioning live. I missed Ford's as I was at work during her questioning. You may want to turn to C-Span and catch a rerun.

The amount of drinking is for lawyers. He said he drank too much a couple times and that he didn't drink too much a few times. While under oath, does the truth negate the lie even if you repeat the lie after you told the truth? @Bill Martin?

Beer pong being "The Devil's Triagle" is not one I've heard. I do see it as a fitting name for the game and games are often called by different names in different regions, so I will give you that one. ;)

It all can be argued until doomsday. We are completely missing the human factor. This man is under such scrutiny for EVERY word that comes out of his mouth I think anybody could be under enough pressure to misspeak. I mean if I was under oath I could testify that my first drunk was on Boones Farm Strawberry Hill (never drank that again) at around 15. To specifically testify to much more than that I could easily make a mistake where some would call it perjury if they had a agenda. All I can say is God help the next Dem that is nominated for something- Good thing the Dems have already cleared Keith Ellison :00008172:
