Because they were too cheap to use metal tabs?

What tabs are you talking about. There are tabs that hold the hood sections together. It's probably so the parts can be separated to paint and ship more easily.

Undercarriages work in close relationship with any front wing that feeds air to it and diffusers extract air from under a car so what happens with all those tabs, do they create lift or drag, and what effect has the tub of the SS......does it create a negative vortex?

The bottom of the SS would need to be closed off or be covers as best possible (flat). There should also be lip (skirt) along the sides of the SS just as the tub rolls under. This skirt needs to be low enough to manage the air flow but not so low that it hits during normal driving conditions. This would send the air down the center of the Slingshot. At the back (off to each side of the swing arm) would be the diffuser you have noted. I can't recall the exact angle but it would need to roll up and outward creating a venture. FI cars will even channel exhaust gasses past their diffusers to generate even more air flow. Now the front spoiler could be made to work even better by adding winglets that would force this air down the center of the Slingshot. This venture would more than likely generate far more down force than any of the current rear wings on the market.
