Disapointing experince with vendors

  • I can't tell @SilverCarbon what to do. But if you felt the need to bring the problem to the forum I would think you could post the vendors name... I think you would get thier attention and maybe save some of us from the same fate. You apparently have an issue that made you upset. So why would you want a fellow member to go thru the same issues.

I more wanted to vent. But you and several others are right I should mention vendors name. At this time I am keeping quiet on who they are. I want to see how it pans out as I reached out to them all again when I originally posted this same post somewhere else.

I am a business owner myself and know what it is like to go though huge growth and what it takes to adjust to keep up with it. Which is why I even gave the vendors so many chances. I think a normal person would have moved on the first time and found it somewhere else.

    I will keep everyone updated.

Im with @rabtech on this one but will only add my experience as it comes to the aftermarket accessories world (Jeep side). Also soon I want be able to chime in on these types of discussions for good reasons.
Contact the vendor first and try to work it out there. If not to your satisfaction than further action is reasonable. Just make sure you state all the facts from both sides accurately.
I would even suggest letting them know your plans and email them a draft of your response before hitting the send key. Sometimes this can help both sides see each other's position and a solution found before further actions are required. Hope to never be in such a position but you never know what can transpire or what the causes of the issue are from 10,000 feet.

I really like the idea of sending a draft to the person before publicly posting. I never thought of that. Good one! I just may use it. Or....may not use it depending on circumstances.

I would double and triple like this if I could. Why start a thread about a bad vendor then leave everyone hanging? Could be several members about to purchase from the same place.

  • Last year at an event, I had a vendor really piss me off. I ordered a wind restrictor from one place, prior to the event. While at the event, a vendor said they had them there and could install it for me. I told them I already ordered one, but thanks for the offer. They told me my order would not go through for a least 2 months because he had cornered the market and had all of them being made. Plus he said the vendor where I ordered it, was laying to me. Well I fell to the pressure and tried to cancel my order on the spot. When I called, they said it was shipped and could not cancel. The vendor on site again, said they were laying and call to cancel my order. Well, I really wanted the restrictor so I told him when and if it comes in, I'll ship it back. Vendor 2 went to the trailer to get one and guess what, he had none! Really, I went through all that for nothing? After the event and I got home, what was waiting for me? My new wind restrictor from my first order. I will only order from that first vendor. The second vendor blew it. I felt bullied after, like it was all about the money and sale. I'm not mentioning names because a lot of people here love the second vendor. The first vendor is Slingmods. I love them. Sorry for not trusting what you said, Won't happen again. At this point, I won't even look at the other place!

Shatneyman, I went through Slingmods, go figure and the pictures I sent were sent back with a etched picture in a week. Followed with my Wind Restrictor at my door the next week.

  • How long is too long to wait for equipment/products ordered to be delivered, past advertised lead time?
How long is too long to wait for communication to be acknowledged, via phone, text and email?
Have had some contact, though VERY minimal in the past 60 days, though my turbo order was last July 24,2016, to the tune of $6,827.50, which to date still do not have complete setup in hand!
In September, decided to buy motor and a few accessories @ $6,050.00
In November decided to go ahead a do another add on, to do everything at once and have a complete project @ another $2,770.00.
So at about $15-16,000.00 paid in full, have had nothing but empty promises of communication and failed shipping dates, now can't even get a reply to emails, can't seem to get a phone call answered and last I tried voice mail was full so couldn't even leave voice mail.
Bill Hahn and Hahn Racecraft, I do still respect you and have full faith in your knowledge of these motors, though not so much in your promises of communication and ability to supply promised products.
Hopefully I will receive some sort of response before I decide to give up and to return to my original thoughts of ordering else where, and then began the quest of trying to re coop dollars already spent.

  • I have the JonV turbo setup on my ride and couldn't be happier. It's sexy and performs very well. Getting it, was pure heartache and grief though and I wouldn't recommend anyone to him for that reason. Unless you are just willing to wait forever with no communication, and the little communication you do get are just excuses and more promises to be broken.

Here are my opinions to your questions:
How long is too long to wait for equipment/products ordered to be delivered, past advertised lead time?

Vendors should under-promise and over-deliver. Instead of trying to make you happy with a short lead time, they should give themselves a buffer so they don't look like ass clowns. If your product shows up earlier than what they told you, you will be ecstatic. If it shows up when they told you it would, you are still happy. Granted things do happen and I think most of us can understand that, but this is where communications come in so vitally.

How long is too long to wait for communication to be acknowledged, via phone, text and email?

I expect my phone calls or texts to be taken almost immediately, but at the very least within the same working day. Email should be answered within 24 hours. That being said, if you aren't going to make a promised delivery date, the vendor should be calling me explaining that there is a "situation" not me calling to find out what the f**k is going on. This is all part of the sale. And when the vendor does communicate with the customer, don't feed them a bunch of garbage, shoot folks straight. I'm pretty good at knowing when I'm being lied to and that just infuriates me more so.

With the money you have put out there already (not that the amount you are spending should matter, but it does) you should at the very least be on the list to receive a phone call with some details to explain where things are at now and what its going to take to get your product delivered to you and an updated timeline. That's not too much to ask. Vendors get to set their own lead time, if they are honest about that up front, these issues wouldn't be issues.

I personally don't have any dealings with Hahn, but I have heard several folks tell stories about how he is so busy and never delivers "on time." I have also heard a few who are stoked about their products from Hahn as well, but it seems those are the folks that have some type of "in" or relationship with him. I get the impression that he makes a great product but really isn't on top of the promised delivery date and customer service side of things. I also get the impression that people are scared to piss him off, like they will lose their supply line to the most awesome products for the Sling available. I haven't nor wouldn't purchase from him, only because of the perceived reputation that I have of him. I'd rather have a mediocre part from a vendor with excellent customer service than an awesome part with no customer service. But hey, that's just me and how I see things...

  • WoW that in my never humble opinion is totally unacceptable, we are not talking about a $200-300 part being delayed and the order falling through the cracks.

An order totalling 15,000 ++ should definitely not fall through the cracks, I don't care how busy you are as a vendor if you can't keep up with demands you don't take people's money and if you do take their money you very damn well be available to answer questions or keep them informed every step of the way.

It sounds like that is a company to stay away from at all cost if as you say they can't even clean their answering machine so people can leave a VM.

Is not that I am mean, I just don't sugarcoat what I say.

  • @shortremover I have no idea how you have been on hold for a turbo since July that's crazy you definitely have some patience.this is one of the reasons I went with alpha their turn around and customer service and it also looked like they would be going into the slingshot a little deeper. Figured most of the vendors would have picked up on that by now, it's all about the turn around and the customer service. I would be goin crazy though after 9 months of waiting for a turbo. That's just terrible service especially no contact. I hope u hear from someone soon or maybe it will just show up but that's alot of money to tie up and still not have anything out of it. Good luck hope it all works out

  • Boy don't get me started on those Slingmods folk,...Normally I make my own parts but every now and again I chose to deal with those guys over there. Always trying to be nice to me,...Me! yeah I know what your thinking but they do it anyhow and then have the absolute Gaul to send me what I am looking for(usually to mangle and alter for another use).
Yeah I have delt with some real butt heads in life(Im not just a member but also the founder) but I will have to say they are quick on their feet with a "Thank you" here and "can I help you" there.
Its so damn hard not to like them :00008862:

I can't say it enough, @slingmods is a model vendor that all other vendors should strive to emulate!!!
