And than we're meeting up for dinner with canegrinder .............
The flip side of this is we get into the 50's the following week and it all goes away!
The Ozarks.... home of the "One Day Winter"
This year our "One Day Winter" has turned into an all time record two + week winter!!!

Yeah... our water company advised people to literally put a rug over the place where the water meter is located below ground and then put rocks on the rug. Why? To keep the meter from freezing solid & cutting off your water supply, of course!
Problem is, our meter lies at the bottom of a 25 degree slope that is now coated with ice. I *suppose* I could slide down using a rug for a sled... but getting back up the hill to the house is not so easy.
Instead, we are letting some taps dribble so pipes & meters don't freeze. This sure *feels* like a Wisconsin winter. Except that nobody around here knows how to live, work, drive in winter weather. 😁
Ozark folk driving in snow? Drunk pigs on ice skates kinda describes it. 🙄
For some reason, houses here in SE Texas have water lines that enter the house above ground and also lack shut-off valves for external water faucets. I use some plastic buckets filled with insulation to protect the exterior faucets and for the incoming water line and the external above ground faucet that supplies our pool, I covered each water line with a plastic indoor garbage can that I split in half lengthwise and glued insulation inside. I then have a thermostat-controlled switch (activates at 38F) that controls power to an old-school work light with a 100W incandescent or Halogen bulb to provide heat inside the cover to protect the water line& faucet. This has worked well the previous 11 winters we've been here and I hope will also work for the upcoming multi-day freeze we're expecting this Sunday night thru Tuesday day. My Daughter will be making a similar setup for her friend's house tomorrow. If we have any freeze damage to the exterior faucets, part of the fix will include interior shut-off valves for the lines to the exterior faucets. If the main water line or pool supply freezes, I'll install permanent covers over both with additional insulation. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the shut-off valve for our yard's irrigation system is, nor do I know where I can blowout the lines once I can turn off the water to the irrigation system, but at least all of our irrigation control valves are buried underground and I've had the system turned off for several months now, so hopefully there isn't enough water in the lines to cause any problems. On the positive side, if I need to do any repairs to the irrigation system, I'll hopefully find the one valve I haven't ever located.
I'm glad we loaded the Slingshot Saturday --- trailer and drive were cleaned and free of snow.
We'll head out on Wed. new 6 in of snow over night

Not this trip ... stopping in Maggie Valley to see our favorite lawyer and than just south of Jacksonville, to meet canegrinder & DJohnson for dinner. Than to Port Charlotte for a while.
Man I looked at Port Charlotte on Goggle Earth. You need to get that Slingshot off that trailer and put a boat on the trailers and a whole bunch of saltwater fishing rods. If that was my trailer I would put a second deck above the Slingshot and load on a couple of fishing kayaks. would be just perfect for up in those canals. In fact I thought of a small kayak trailer to pull behind my sling.

Very good friend is in Fort Myers and is on one of the canals and I go out with him a little. I'm not into fishing --- I go out for a little conversation. I usually catch more and better than Mort does.
