Polaris and my dealership, my Slingshot is down!

  • I had my rear end bearings replaced at 1k miles then again at 4,500 miles with the double nut fix. I waited for 1 month with my Slingshot at the Dealership waiting on parts?! I made the appointment 2 weeks in advance and they knew what it was going in for. So I have mentioned since before I went to the trip in Maggie Valley that I have had weird noises in my drive train. They tell me to put some miles on it and see what happens. I drove almost 4,500miles driving from Boston to Indiana to North Carolina to Alabama then back up etc.. So I had some weird rubber grinding noises and loud chirps as well. It would do it while in gear and by easing off the accelerator I could go from the grinding noise to the chirping noise every time. I would also get a hard shift/grind going from 3rd gear @4k rpm and shift into 5th to cruise. They checked out the angle drive and drive shaft/U-joint and said it was fine. They found that the fluid was out of the reservoir for the transmission. So more of an assumption that the slave cylinder is leaking internally. I never saw a puddle of fluid anywhere I parked it and it is garaged all the time where it sits. I spoke to @rabtech and he informed me that there is not enough room to just pull the transmission you have to pull the engine out to get at the transmission. So I asked them if they took it out yet and they said they are waiting on the part which should have arrived on 8/15 because Polaris is having a supply chain issue.. Well the date has now just been extended to 9/2 !! I can get this part at just about any parts place faster ex.. ( 2009 PONTIAC SOLSTICE 2.4L L4 Clutch Slave Cylinder | RockAuto ) $125 part!!! They do not have room to pull my engine and have it apart until the parts get there.. So I said well if you need other replacement parts you will have to leave it apart and I will have to wait for you to get those parts too!! It could need a new throw out bearing or something that breaks when they take the engine out.. *sigh* They did a steering wheel fix with a new bolt to tighten it up and they re-aligned it with the Laser and put it back in factory spec.. I have my front shocks lower than stock with my JRI 2ways I think they took the camber out which I am not sure I wanted them to do? So they opened a Customer Down case with Polaris and supposedly that means they will have someone go out to the line into their inventory where they are building them and box up a part and ship it to them??? I have lost between 3-4 months I have not been able to drive my slingshot because of recalls and warranty work do I have any legal recourse?!

I didn't get into all the little things besides this that has happened since purchase but I won't ramble on more than I already have.

Sorry to hear of your ongoing problems (it was nice meeting you in Maggie Valley) and we hoped your troubles were finally being eliminated. As I recall, in Massachusetts, the lemon law does not apply to motorcycles, so the short answer is no. But your selling dealer should have the ability to make some phone calls to get something done for you (other than finally getting the parts after a long wait). Hope it gets resolved soon as you could be getting winter in October up there. That would end up reducing your riding season down to two months at best

    Nobody gets outta here ALIVE

  • Spent all last month with a vehicle down order for an angle drive. Spending all this month with a vehicle down order for a control arm. My 4th set of brake sensors are also on back order.

They never pull from the assembly line. You are just first in line when the next cargo ship full of Chinese crap docks.

It was great meeting you to! I have not looked into it for the lemon law but I think it is 3 times for the same issue within a certain amount of time. Before this last episode I already spoke to Polaris about my issues since purchase and really they kept saying maybe the dealership can help you with that, they are the eyes and ears for us. I asked for my 2 year warranty be extended to 5 years because I have no confidence in them and after all said and done they said they would factory extend my warranty for 1 year. So basically they charge more for the new models because they fixed or upgraded things to address the issues we suffered through. All of us with issue and the aftermarket community paid for their trial run R&D.. I would think by now someone would have a class action lawsuit on some of these things to help out all the early adopters. I will ride it as long as I can into the colder months, the PRP heated seats will help :)

  • That sucks to hear @BlackDeath we really have some good memories of meeting and riding with you at SSITS16. I hate to see you going through this. :00008862:

Thanks man I had a great time also. It was nice to have had the opportunity to meet up and drive down with you guys. I really want to make it to the Upstate NewYork one also but I am not working, I am looking for an IT position..

  • guys... unfortunately I do not think there is any secret way to get each of your issues resolved. I went through a huge pain I the neck this time last year and then again at the begining of the summer. After last year I took it upon myself to work both with the dealer and Polaris to resolve my issue. First with tbe dealer to let them get the ball rolling and then opening a dialogue with Polaris with their customer service team. I started a ticket with them and just kept chipping away as politely as possible and as helpful and informative as I could to help them understand my case. You should get a case specialist (forgive me not knowing all their titles) who will be your direct contact. Remember honey catches more flies than vinegar. Believe me when I say that the resolution reached was because there was no other direction to take. Diagnosed problems with a known source and solution will be repaired. Moving it along as quickly as possible will be your best course of action. Getting Polaris to get the needed parts will be what your specialist will be tasked with within their allowed capabilities. Be nice and only ask to take it further after you have reached a dead end.
Please do not think myself or anyone else have the keys to the kingdom.

  • @BlackDeath, recently had mine in the shop for a leaky rear seal. My dealer in Lake Villa, IL found the problem during routine maintenance--oil change. First one they had and had to wait a couple of days for a part. Don't know what all they pulled apart, but it's running much quitter now.

Hope you get back on the road soon.
