Battery Charging info just in case

  • I see a lot of people online talk about battery’s and putting charging ports in and battery tender plugs. I’m not sure about every year but my 2018 u can just charge/tender through the center 12v port. Figured I would just put it out there incase people didn’t know about that. It’s Very convenient actually.

  • The "charging ports" you are referring to, may actually be the "jump ports".

Yes, charging through the 12V receptacle is good.

The jump ports mount outside of the battery compartment wherever you might want to put them.

Makes it more convenient than taking apart the panel to gain access to the battery when it's dead.

I kind of figured most people on here probably already know about charging through the center. I just remember when I bought mine I had know idea about that until someone had mentioned it. I see a lot of knew owners lately on FB And i read lot about tender charging so I figured a refresh of info might help some people out. And yes u are correct I forgot about the jumping aspect of the battery being hidden u are def right I prob did mistake that with simple charging. Good info as well.

  • Casper2286 if you feel the need a place to jump your Sling off, install it under the hood using the hot on the alternator. They sell a kit that mounts in the computer area.

  • I had the jump ports on my last SS but knowing you can jump from the “hot” red alternator post and the engine ground 18” away - Why? 🤷🏼‍♂️
    (thanks again Dave!)

For one, as I explained above, on the 2015/2016 SlingShots the hot lead on the alternator is down underneath and basically not easily accessible. Also, I am thinking that you would require a more direct connection if the battery was almost totally dead thus the jump ports connected to the battery with heavier cables? Plus, another thing I believe that I see is that with the more open jump port, if one got a lil careless, there would be less likelihood of accidental arcing than if going for the alternator?

  • wjfyfe thanks for the reply and all good suggestions. I have a 2019 and never really paid much attention to the alternator location on my 2016. That would definitely make a difference however mine are very accessible and it worked like a charm. With any luck I will never have to do it again😎

And I have one of those newfangled supposed to be all that yellow batteries and it wouldn’t even light the starter button light so yeah it was dead as a hammer but thankfully back from the dead🙂

  • Just to throw it out there

I'm not sure if I saw it posted on here or if it was in one of my facebook slingshot groups, but not that long ago I remember seeing a post where a guy with a battery problem could not for the life of him get it to jumpstart with his under the hood jump posts that were hooked to the alternator, but when he removed the cover in the back and hooked directly to the battery it jumped perfectly.

I have no clue why, but figured it was worth mentioning
