How do you use a panel removal tool to remove the center console panels? I don't want to break any tabs. I tend to do that. I'm talking about the painted panels next to the emergency brake area. Couldn't find in filebase.

There is double sided tape under there. I used a heat gun and some fishing line. You would also probably have good luck with a heat gun and some of those plastic "paint scrapers".

You also need to remove the dash trim panels that are held in place with little finger clips that lock into holes in the dash top above the Infotainment cubby area. Those panels conceal push pins that secure the top edge of the console trim panels to the dash. When I I reinstalled the console trim panels, I skipped the double-stick tape and drilled small holes to accommodate push pins at the rear of the console trim panels near the cup holders. The push pins leave a small black spot, but it's far enough back that I rarely notice them and they secure the console trim pieces nicely w/o the tape.
I bought a used radio shade/cup holder setup that I can't seem to get the push pins to properly insert thru the shade, console panel and into the dash, so I'm planning on replacing the push pins with rivet nuts so I can use a short screw to hold everything in place.

Good info but how do I get the painted side panels off? The instructions say to use a panel removal tool but doesn't say how to use it. How are those panels affixed to the tranny tunnel? Maybe just slide the tool in and pry loose.

.....i always just pull & pray (that nothing cracks) just kidding , you have to raise them upward, besides the double sided tape and the 2 push pins....start at the back where the cup holders are.....

Glad to know the side panels are on with dbl tape. Now I just have to be careful removing them. I thought there were tabs.

So there are tabs of sort. Start at the back by the cup holders as suggested earlier and push up on the bottom of that panel and it should move enough for you to see how that panel has small tabs that go down into the black plastic of the center console. So you'll want to push up and out a little after you have applied some heat and then you should also be able to get a plastic paint scraper down in there to peel off any remaining tape.

Guess I should buy a heat gun.

[/quote]If you have a hair dryer that would likely get the job done as well.

Guess I should buy a heat gun.
Just move to Florida and leave it outside for the afternoon (as long as you don't have a top installed0

I use a hair dryer for a lot of this type of work... not as HOT and less apt to get things too hot. It will heat things enough to do the job.

....use my heat gun for everything, had to replace my charging port and a new back plate ( one plus 6T cell phone ), heat gun on low warmed things up enough for me to go to work......
