Only in California - wow (political subject warning

  • As a Libertarian I firmly believe that a person should be allowed to do anything they want just so long that in doing so they do not interfere with the rights of others - - and yes this includes doing drugs, if you want to do drugs it should not be anyone's business unless in doing so you cause harm, including financial harm, to others. - - that being said I was stunned this morning when I read this

California advances legislation to make psychedelic drugs legal

I wonder if my local mamajuana dispensary will soon be selling shrooms

  • People in CA actually NEED this stuff because their reality is too horrific to tolerate…

Apparently my title is not accurate - reading the story it seems some states have beaten California to the punch - Oregon for one - - but I do believe the "social sharing" that is in the CA bill might be a first.

  • I know you all think I am nuts and that I take BD for walks in the park. But it has nothing to do with drugs or the right to do them. Lets face it there are plenty of people doing it now illegally.

This is just another link in the chain to disrupt the fabric of society. As the society begins to break down violence and a lack of respect for your neighbors increases. That is when someone or some group steps in and says put us in charge we can help. In most cases if you dig deep enough that is the same group or person that stated it all. This is just a fact repeated over and over again thru history. Notice I did not put a name on the group or person.

I am not trying to make this political just trying to get people to look back at history. Equate what has happened in the past to what is happening now.

I may feel this way because of my love and use of mushrooms - :P

The problem I see with what my State is trying to do is that they are going to make these drugs legal without attaching the responsibility for doing them without interfering with the rights of others.

the most important aspect of the Libertarian platform is that in exercising ones individual rights you do so without stepping on the rights of others - - if you want to do drugs - go for it, but you must be 100% responsible for anything that goes wrong if you make that decision - and you must pay out of your own pocket for any financial impact or other negative result of your choice.

in this law this does not seem to be the case - if someone freaks out and od's or hurts someone you can bet the public and the tax payers will be on the hook

Yes - I believe in total individual freedom, with that freedom must also come with total responsibility for the individuals choices and actions. - as soon as you expect others to pay for your bad choices and actions that in no longer Libertarianism - when that happens it is socialism

but heck - its California so what else would you expect? responsibility of the individual for themselves? I don't think so, not in CA

Changed the title of the thread from “Only in California - wow” to “Only in California - wow (political subject warning”.

This reminds me of a series of books by L Ron Hubbard (yes that one) called "Mission Earth" where the sent agents to prepare us for joining their space union thing (it's been a while since I read it). Parts of it was degrading the moral fabric of society and the other was making sure we didn't destroy the planet before their timeline for conquest.

when you fill out a CC gun permit ...one of the questions is do you use illegal drugs.....red flag to not give it to you.....same for when you buy the gun......back door to confiscation/denial....

  • when you fill out a CC gun permit ...one of the questions is do you use illegal drugs.....red flag to not give it to you.....same for when you buy the gun......back door to confiscation/denial....

I hate to agree, but this is true - - even with medical pot it is still a federal offence

funny thing - back when it was only medical pot that was legal you had to get a prescription and a medical pot card - if you did this it was guaranteed you would be denied on the federal gun back ground check

now days that pot is fully legal at the state level there is no record of who buys it kept so no way for it to show up against you when you buy a gun

never tried for a cc permit so I cant address that, but can say that if there is no record of sales of these drugs that are legal at the state level it would seem fairly easy to just say no on any question asked about them - - probably better just to not do the drugs

oh yea - and as a side note do we really want people doing psychedelic drugs having guns anyway?

  • As of today, Iowa became a non permit required conceal carry state. But, you do need to fill out paperwork and wait for it to come back before you can take a gun home from a dealer. And, you can't cross state lines with a gun. If you are stopped by LEO and you have a gun without having a permit, you could spend a awhile waiting around for the officer to run a check on you and your gun.

I have a CCP, so it doesn't affect me.

  • Our great country is going the way ancient Rome did. Read the history.

History shows that most great political and military entities last, on average, 200 to 250 years.

The math is not in our favor.

Most of us lived thru the "glory years", 1950 to 1970. Before that, nobody had anything. After that, everybody has everything.

    It's been fun.

    .

If you only take the past 500 years in to account, maybe. Starting at the beginning major civilizations it seems to be off by a power of 10 at minimum. And this doesn't include the Americas.

    But I get your point ........... wink-squared

  • I'm not sure how many here have actually taken psychedelics... I'm not ashamed to say that I have. Mushrooms are by far one of the most enjoyable highs I have experienced. One reason I gave them a try in the first place was reading articles about how they were used to treat depression and people who suffer from ptsd. The benefits can last long term...not just the duration of the "high". If you haven't already, check into it some time

I was only depressed when I couldn't find them. They were a favorite in my younger years.
