My hood accent screws are breaking away from the bottom of the hood accent strips

I noticed the other day that the passenger side hood accent strip has lost several of its little pins that stick down thru the main hood and allow the screws that hold the accent strip in place to come loose. I assume that since I never replaced the double-sided tape that helped hold the hood accent strips in place, that the vibration of the hood due to wind buffeting eventually caused the little pins on the bottom of the accent strips to start breaking loose.

Given the cost of each strip, my initial thinking is to just drill up through the accent strips from below and then use conventional screws and nuts to hold the accent strips in place. Right now I'm leaning towards using blackened (dull, not shiny) screws on the tops of the strips and nuts underneath, possibly with some type of spring between the nuts and the bottom of the hood to minimize stress on the thru-holes.

Since I'm not sure that the spring-cushioning is really necessary and I sometimes tend to over-think solutions, I wanted to get some feedback from other owners.

Regular nuts or spring-tensioned screws & nuts?

I've also thought about that, but I also think the thru-screws might give the hood a riveted/built-up look.

Probably not, but I would prefer to NOT use the double-stick tape. Much easier to get hood apart w/o it.

Got that idea from rabtech anyone who can disassemble a machine as often as he does and still have it look good must have some secret tips

I had wondered about that, but was concerned the Velcro might be too thick. Something to keep in mind.
