wokka's 2019

just the basics :)

Can't really get any pics of this, or it wouldn't make much sense, so will describe and answer questions for anyone.

One of the biggest things that they missed in the electrical department was the lack of spare fuse capacity and while some vendors have some very nice stuff for plug and play, they seem a bit overpriced, so I built my own setup.

First up is the fuse block from walmart.com, I'm installing this in the glove box, mounted upside down against the top of the box, should be out of the way and still be accessible when I need it. The biggest drawback to this was the lack of a switched option and it's not water proof, so that's why it's in the glove box. For the switched option, I didn't need any always on connections, so I wired in a relay from ebay to the hot side. Of course, since I'm being frugal with this, I get relays that are wired incorrectly on the plug and their diagram is wrong, but once I figured that out, it's working as expected.

    The fuse block also doesn't

Good weather and a half free afternoon allowed me to get my exhaust on. Thanks to Jeff Welter for taking my call early in the evening to answer a question!

Ceramic powder coated 1320 header from kev at https://allthingsslingshot.com/. He deserves a shout out and a plug for helping me save a bit of cash on ordering the exhaust system with his 5% points, a bit over $100 USD he saved me.

The ceramic powder coating was done locally by http://acepowdercoatinggarland.com/ and I highly recommend him. Ace is friendly and does an outstanding job.

Now that I have it installed, I kinda wish I had coated the cat delete box, but hindsight being what it is. The exhaust is a Welter 2.5" Dual also bought from Kev. I went with the 2.5" because I plan to go boosted some day, just not right now.

The Y pipe at the rear is coated as well and came out really good I think. It was late so the pics aren't that good without sunlight and using a cell phone, but I think you get the idea.

This came up in a thread about Texas speciality plates, so figured I'd put all of my info here to help out others.

There are two sites to get plates from for Texas. It's confusing on how they lay them out, but most of the newer plates can only be ordered through the myplates.com site, which are more expensive.

This is how I find the plate I'm looking for.

Go to https://www.txdmv.gov/motorist…/specialty-license-plates which is linked off of txdmv.gov and it will show all of the plates, on the right hand side is the various categories, but if you click on something like Colleges and Universities, it will show plates from both TX and myplates.com.

I've found if I filter by type and leave out the my plates list, I can find the cheaper ones:

Check the Charity and/or Qualifying, leave the My Plates unchecked

Here is the cheaper plate from Tx and not from my plates:

I'm still working on the radio install, waiting on parts, but I've been busy.

Over the last couple of weekends, I've been building and rebuilding the roof rack setup, to go on top of my Twist Dynamics canvas top.

I stole this idea from SS Roof Rack, so many thanks to VERN and mikeboztx for paving the way.

I wanted something light, easy to take on and off and affordable. We probably will only use this a couple of times a year, so it didn't make sense to invest a lot of money into it (would rather save that for other mods).

With the newer models, putting an aftermarket head-unit (radio) in is challenging. We don't have a lot of choices to mount the things. It seems with the newer models, we have a lot more room there, or at least the opening is bigger.

I'm still very new to Slingshots (bought mine in December of this year), so I'm learning as I go (and reading a lot on these forums). So, I bought the wrong adapter and of course, it didn't fit, and completely fit through the opening, so that's why I say that we have a lot more room.

I had bought two adapters, first one I got in, wasn't the greatest quality, and the single page instructions stated to cut my dash. Like hell I'm cutting my dash. Well, I might have thought about it, if the part was well made aluminum or something, but it was just cheap plastic.

Being that it was cheap plastic, I cut the hell out of the adapter until it fit :) It's not going to stay, just there temporarily until mytoy get's his 2018+ double-din mount done and I'll be

This is a Twist Dynamics canvas top and a Twist Dynamics adjustable 13" windshield. Built quality is good. The windshield had no real issues with the instructions. If they'd listen, I'd give them a small bit of feedback on making a couple of the steps a bit better to understand. They'd also do well to post some videos of the install.

The top, well, had zero instructions. I don't know if they just assumed people would know what to do, or QA missed that there were none. Thanks for a forum reply by airoutlaw to my request for help on it, it went on pretty easy with his instructions. I took my time with both, probably took me 3 hours to install them. Part of that time was me looking for instructions and locating the right tools.

Hopefully TD answers my request about the lack of instructions.

This doesn't really have to do with my build, but something that I feel passionate about and wanted it out there to be referenced and discussed.

To all of our manufacturers out there and those that resell those products. Many of the items you are making are unique, but there is some competition in some of the spaces and guaranteed if you don't have competition now, if you have a good idea, there will be competition in the future.

Business 101 tells us that you should have good customer service, and part of that is having detailed and good instructions on installation, use and troubleshooting of the product.

I'm not going to call out the product/manufacturer in this article, but I recently received a product in, a mod that goes into the dash, and it literally had a single page, with one picture and two sentences on the install. It was a bad photo copy or bad print and looked like something a 12 year old would make. The product itself seems to be well made, but I have no clue

I've gotten a few responses on my shifter post and everyone agrees that I should add a DDM Short Throw Shifter, damn, you guys like to help me spend my money.

I hate half doing anything, my OCD just tweaks in my head until it drives me batty, so yeah, I ordered the shifter.

I didn't get any pics yet, was late last night, but got the parts in for a small mod, shifter change out. It's cosmetic, but I just didn't care for the feel of the stock shifter. Went cheap and bought a shifter adapter off of amazon and a cheap, pretty knob. The shift adapter seems to be well built, but did not fit my 2019 base. The slot where the shift shank from the transmission was not deep enough, so when you put the adapter over the shank, the hole for the allen lock bolt did not line up.

Pulled off the shank (just had to remove the boot and it's another 5mm allen bolt that holds it on the tranny), used a hack saw to shorten and everything bolted back together.

Between it not fitting without modification and it being a bit longer than I expected, I would not recommend that shift adapter. It does not shorten at all, just allows you put any standard knob.

I've ordered the DDM short shifter as well, to give it a try. Everyone keeps saying I'll love it ^^

Planned mods, but I don't have the budget for just yet...

I really like the Volk te37 SL Pressed black wheels but they are pricey and I'm sure I can find a similar design that is cheaper. I plan to stick with 18" wheels all the way around, and ideally, put the same 3 tires all the way around, of course, going wider with a 10.5 or 11" wide wheel. For tires I haven't decided yet, mainly a summer tire that is plenty sticky, and will research more once I'm ready to pull the trigger. Going to wait until the back tire needs to be replaced first.

Forced air induction, but haven't decided on which one. I don't need insane amounts of power, but who knows once i get more comfortable with it. WIll cross that bridge when I get to it

A keyless ignition because I'm lazy and like using a fob instead of a key

Really wish the prices weren't so high on the Canadian light kit for the newer models, but, it's on the list.
