Ask @Nemesis1701 to get the post he made about converiting a cheap U-Haul to trailer the SS. That will work in a pinch for sure!!

The instructions are on here somewhere along with pictures.

@ericastar76 & @FunCycle - Thanks for the info. I couldn't find a post with instructions but I did find one with a photo (linked) which should be enough to figure something out. Unfortunately, renting a U-Haul car carrier like the one @Nemesis1701 has pictured will run $450-500 for eight days. That's a little hard to justify when Megan is getting cold feet (pun intended) about riding in cooler weather. As of now, the forcast for next weeks is daytime temps averaging 55F and only four days of "ideal" weather. X/

Anyway, I agree that the U-Haul trailer is a viable option but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone else might be willing to help me save a few bucks with their own lease or lending arrangement. :D Thanks again!

Hey crew! Craaaazy question for everyone...

I'm wondering if you, or someone you know in my region (MD, VA, DE), might be willing to lend (or lease, for a reasonable fee) a tow dolly or open trailer fit for hauling an SS. I'd prefer the lower drag but I would be willing to consider a closed trailer too; beggars can't be choosers.

I'm going to New England next week on vacation and would love to take the SS but the Mrs. is having reservations. Since colder temps have finally kicked in, she's likely to veto the SS as our primary mode of transport. :(

I know it's short notice but I'm available to pick it up any day/time between now and this Saturday (10/27) since we depart on Sunday.

Obviously, it's a big request, but ya never know if ya don't ask. I don't want to clog/hijack the thread with this, so please send any responses directly via PM. Thanks for your consideration and assistance! :)

anyone have any riding events coming up? or wrench time? Really don't have any mods to do minus the 5 minute hood vent swap happening this evening lol. Trying to get the wife to commit to a ride out somewhere. I'm not sure if its going to work or if I will get the go ahead either lol. Just thought I would live vicariously through you guys lol.

Booze & Blues is coming up at the beginning of October. It's a weekend event in Clarksville, VA and guaranteed to be a good time with a great group of folks. You don't have to stay for the whole weekend but, from the DC Metro area, it's might be a long drive for a one-day visit. Whether one day or more, it's best to roll in the night before and stay at the Magnuson on the Lake (ride start/end location) so you're rested, refueled (gas station up the street), and ready for the following day's group ride(s).

... I asked the judge about adding a roof and he said that any roof would be removable unless it was welded on to the structure. Even then you would still get ticketed and have to prove that it is a structural component. He was pretty savvy on the Slingshots and knew that the tops bolt to the roll hoops which are also removable. ...

Good point about structural (welded) vs removable (bolted). Since most removeable roofs use the mirror mounting holes, it's pretty obvoius that the roof is not intended to handle high impact or roll-over stress. Under those stresses, those bolts would probably snap like twigs and it's anybody's guess what happens after that.

I went without a helmet (weather permitting) for almost a year, up here in MD. It all ended in a beautiful day this past spring when a LEO pulled me over, knowing a helmet was required. He didn't know how much the fine would be and when he found out it was going to $110 he had mercy on me and let me off with a warning. Having my half shell sitting in the passenger seat may have helped too. Personally, my wallet isn't deep enough to pay for that kind of personal freedom. Been wearing a helmet ever since, except on the rare occasion that I'm in a helmet liberal state. :)

I will try and get you a pic as soon as I can. but the instructions that I have don't match the wiring diagram and the harness doesn't match the hardware. the "Y" portion of the cable wont hook up to the old horn and new horn at the same time. its connectors are different and its like I might have to fabricate connectors. just strange. I made a braided cord for a hot and ground to run to the battery but cant quite get the horn situation straight lol. its just weird.

Unless it was made specifically for the SS, I wouldn't expect connectors to mate up. I am curious; does the Y cable split the new power circuit between the horn and a compressor or is it splitting the switch circuit between the existing and new horns (combining them)?

    Attention @V-SHOT ????

    @Hernandeves5,

I'm in Laurel, MD, about an hour north of Lorton, in light traffic. If you don't hear from anyone closer, I'd be happy to help you out - no charge. As an alternative, if you can send me an image (scan or pic, via private message) of the installation instructions, I could probably mark what goes where and send it back to you. Let me know! :)

One thing you'll definitely want add is an 8' ground rod outside in a moist area....(hehehehe like that would be hard!!) It will surely help with your powder sticking to the metals easier and save on alot of cuss words and re-sprays!! I bought mine at Lowes for around $10 but was a HUGE PITA for me and the son to hammer into the ground!

Ground rod in a moist area... (snicker) Gods, we can be an infantile bunch at times, can't we?

Back in school, I decided to take a semester of Abnormal Psychology 101. Halfway through reading the textbook, I came to the conclusion that I suffer from a little bit of everything in that book. Even scarier was that I felt that everyone else did too. :P

More true words rarely spoken. Define normal. Not sure anyone I've ever met fits into that box. I prefer slightly bent, and mostly harmless!

Yeah, I firmly believe there are two kinds of people in the world; those that are getting professional help and those that need to start. "Normal" is purely relative and entirely subjective. One of the reasons reality TV became so popular and is still going strong, especially the more outrageous shows (e.g. Jerry Springer, COPS, Bridezillas, Hoarders, Duck Dynasty, etc.), is because people can justify their own... peculiarities... since they're not as far out of bounds as THOSE people. Yes, but that's like a pot smoker saying, "well at least it's not cigarettes." Oh, and WTF is up with that? Cigarettes are being banned everywhere while pot is getting legalized? NO - don't go there! Let is go. Let it go. I've already been too complicit in the highjacking of this thread. <X

So, getting back to the really important stuff... ladies!!... have any new workshop goodies arrived that you can distract us with? :saint:

Sadly (and I wish it weren’t the case), it’s legit OCD. The Fluvoxamine does help a little, but I do find myself spiraling every so often. Stuff like counting random things, excessive hand washing, restarting processes, etc. (it can be most annoying to say the least). ||

Yeah, that's true OCD and I feel for ya. ADHD is no picnic, but OCD can make it seem almost trivial in comparison. Good thing you've got a very understanding spouse. At least I'm assuming she is since she was crazy enough to hitch her horse to your wagon or her wagon to your horse. Whatever; you get the idea.

BAHAHA ~> I wish! I’m fortunate to have a good FT job which pays all the bills.
Thing is (and this is not always a good thing), when I set out to do something, I want it done right (done right + OCD = expensive in my world)! That said, what you’re seeing is a vision of mine from well over 10 years ago coming together ~> I’ve always wanted a shop to get lost in my ideas and test my creativity... FINALLY (and with the help of my wife), I now have it!

Here’s a tidbit about me that few people know: I truly envy those with artistic ability. But because I suffer from OCD (the kind you would treat medically), it’s hard for me to open that door and humor my creative side. Logic always takes over; with function beating out form every time. “I’m hoping” to not just build functional things ~> I want to practice the ART OF MAKING (stuff like welding sculptures for example). I truly believe I can do it and can’t remember feeling this alive!

Wow... This really resonates with me... My level of OCD is not medicated, but add to it my highly critical disposition, I hate to draw and try things sometimes, because like you mentioned, something takes over and I end up feeling overwhelmed and at times helpless and depressed when I fail...
That said... When I succeed... Wow what a feeling!

Dunno, folks. That sounds more like chronic perfectionism (a very common trait among us ADHDers) or something like it. It can sometimes feel like OCD but true OCD usually has a noticeably negative impact on your daily life. If you have "mild OCD", then it's probably not OCD. Just sayin'. @MiM, I get those same feelings of overwhelm and helplessness when faced with disorder, chaos, too many options, and not enough information. "Analysis paralysis" is my mortal enemy. Trying something new and/or unknown that requires extended periods of concentration, has lots of details and/or steps, and/or lacks clear and sufficient directions or instructions makes a modest project feel like you're taking on Mount Everest. My mom's favorite example of my struggling was when I was in the first grade and I had to write down the names of ALL 50 states in the U.S. To me it was a massive task and took "for-everrrrrr!" :) It wasn't until fairly recently that I learned I had reading and writing disabilities, in addition to my ADHD, so for me, at that age, it actually was a pretty daunting task. I know that may be hard to believe considering the length and detail of some (ok... many X/ ) of my posts, but it's true. In fact, I've been working on this post for close to an hour now. Time to wrap it up.

So, in summary... unless your compulsive behavior is preventing you from living a mostly normal life (keeping a job, maintaining relationships, etc.), it's probably not OCD. Not sure why I felt compelled to make that point, but I did. Probably my ADHD. Sorry, all! :saint:

Based on the list above and the equipment you've already set up, I'm guess playing all those scratch-offs finally paid out. :D

Okay, I am looking for someone that can create a template, in paper for me of an outline of the front of a Slingshot that is about 4 ft H X 6 ft W that I can tape to the floor of my garage and using paint fill it in making a nice emblem on the floor of my garage. Thank you to anyone that can help. I think if somebody could make something like this that can just be folded up and mailed out for a nominal price would do well. I don't suppose I am the only one that would like something like this.

I may regret saying this, but I may be able to help you out. I attempted to put a big (5-6 ft. diameter) H-D Skull logo on my floor when I was having it professionally epoxied. The contractor wasn’t much help so I ultimately gave up. However, that wasn’t until after I had already made the entire template and was trying to get it to seal to the floor. If I had more time, and a more knowledgeable and experienced contractor, we probably could have managed it. Unfortunately, I was already about to fire them and just wanted them to get the clear coat down before I wasted anymore of my money on them. A VERY expensive and disappointing experience. I could have done a better job myself and saved a shit ton of money. Live and learn.

Anyway, send me a PM if you’re interested and we’ll see what we can work out.

Normally just a baseball cap or nothing on my head. I do carry helmets in case some LEO says I need one or due to a downpour

I started doing the same last summer, mostly running around town and without incident, but I'll probably go back to my half-shell soon. The Locals have seen me enough with both that they probably let me slide, but others are getting wise. The last three LEOs I chatted with (WV Trooper, VA Trooper, and a neighboring Local here in MD), all asked the dreaded question, "Helmet's are required, right?" Of course, I'm not the kind of person to lie, especially to a cop. I learned a long time ago that when someone asks you a question you want to avoid, it's usually because they already know the answer. Fortunately, each time I was wearing a helmet or put it on before turning the ignition key. :whistling:

    • I was thinking of picking up a Scorpion Exo GT920 modular for highway cruising and bug nights down here in FLA. Pretty cool looking and about 210$

As an alternative, you might consider a 3/4 or 1/2 (full coverage shield for either) or a modular with removable chinbar (like my Nolan N44) instead. A full face is going to be so hot (in FL) that you'll have a hard time keeping faceshield closed, which would defeat the purpose. The nice thing about the N44 is the chinbar sits behind the full coverage shield. When the chinbar is removed, you have a 3/4 shell with plenty of airflow, but enough coverage to keep rain from running down the neck of your rain suit. Perfect when you have to drive in a summer storm. When I go to the track, I remove the face shield and attach the chinbar with the sun visor (like a dirt bike helmet) for better visibility and protection, but still plenty of airflow. In colder weather (not much of a problem in FL, I know) I use a Freeze-out insulated balaclava and 3/4 setup and keep the chinbar nearby incase it gets too cold. Using the chinbar is usually my last option, for reasons I will explain below.

BTW, the N44 also has a pin-lock anti-fog shield which is awesome. I can fog up a regular face shield while holding my breath, even while using anti-fog treatments. However, the pin-lock system basically turns your visor into an insulated double-pane window. No matter how hot or cold it is, my pin-lock shield does not fog. I highly recommend it for any full or modular helmet you are considering.

My only complaint with the N44 is that the shell traps a lot of low-frequency noise that bounces around inside the helmet when in full face configuration (chinbar and faceshield installed). However, I think that may be a problem with full face helmets in general, but more so for the plastic shells. It gets so loud that it drowns out the radio and just pounds on my eardrums. The only way to combat the low-freq droning is to open the face shield, remove chinbar, or pump music into a headset. Music from the external speakers will only make things worse. Unfortunately, at sustained highway speeds, the extra buffeting and vibration with the faceshield raised is not much better than the droning. Personally, the wind and vibration with the face shield only cracked open at >50mph will rattle my head enough to blur my vision, so it's face shield fully down and either ditch the chinbar or switch to headset mode.

If you have an old full face or can borrow one from a friend, give it a try in the Slingshot before you spend your money on a new full face and find out you can't bear to wear it.

    Just my 2 cents.
