Anyone know what the engine and transmission are selling for used. I maybe getting close to listing mine before long and was wondering what to price them for. Low miles around 5 to 6000.

No idea but let us know the end result. I'd like to know the price market myself.

low milage used runs anywhere from $500-$850 for the engine. If you want to get the model with the heavier made block they go for $1200-$1500 for just the engine and you will still have to use your old head or one like it. Not sure about the transmission. I'm sure a quick ebay search will put you in the ball park. The only reason for going back with the original design block would be if you blew a motor and didn't want to loose precious riding time while building a new motor. Then the original style would be a quick fix until you could do something better.

I am sure that the price reflects that it is for a slingshot but it isn't anything special. These motors were installed in anything and everything. Local junk yards have plenty of them.

I am not knocking the mans stuff in any shape form or fashion. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I was just making a point that they are not in short supply.

Clean motor and they say it only has 3K miles; should manifold be that rusted?

Mine did quick, but it lived outside for over a year.

Thanks I seen the one on eBay. I may list it there later on and see what happens.

I have bought 2 at one time for 350 each. No transmissions just the engines

On the west coast, used junkyard 2.4s are going for $600 - $850. These all have considerable miles though; usually around 80-120k. The rare finds that are under 50k miles go for $1,000 to $1,500. There isn't really a noticeable price difference between the Slingshot style engine/block and the newer "better" blocks that you would likely use when building a forged engine.
A low mileage Slingshot take out engine shouldn't be priced the same as a junkyard engine. A higher mileage junkyard motor should be gone through with at least a new timing set.
I would price the engine around $1,500 and the transmission at $1,000. Shipping is what always makes these sales difficult. -
My only feedback is from my buddy that owns a tranny shop (the automobile kind). He has told me that the Aisin trannies are decent and reasonably reliable but nothing special. They do the job they are designed for and, unlike wives, are typically more expensive to rebuild than replace with a low mileage unit. I do not have numbers - on trannies or wives.
