Can anyone instruct me on which of these is the correct filter? I have seen many posts citing the M1C-151 and one post citing the M1C-151A. I bought both and can't seem to get the filter cap to thread with the 151 but can with the 151A which fits inside the 'cup' in the filler cap. I don't want to get this wrong so any help will be greatly appreciated!

They are actually different size and shape. The 151 is taller by about 1/4" with a shorter nipple.

Typically "long life" or "extended drain" filters do not filter as well standard filters... yes they are usually beefed up to withstand higher pressures so they do not fail with high contaminate loads but they also usually do not filter as small a particle to prevent contaminate loading over a longer expected service life, notice they used the multi-pass test rather than a single pass test rating .....
In multiple filter set ups you use a "long life" filter for the first pass then a standard filter in the second position to catch what was missed .....
If you are doing frequent oil changes it is better to stick with a standard life filter ....

Good info, slightly over my head (another opening for @KayTwo) - but doesn't help with my current dilemma. 151 or 151A.

Is it alright to post something from another forum, there is lots of reading here but I think that you will find your answer?

I've been reading there too. Again, the 151 is listed as an option. I just can't figure out why I can't thread the cap on with that one.

Come join us for a ride up to Mt. St. Helens Wednesday. Only 5 states away. If you leave in the next 15 minutes you could make it!

I'm probably wrong, but my guess is the plain 151 is US use, and the 151A is Canadian. The guy in marketing thought that marketing the Canadian one as 151 eh? might cost them too many customers

Without actually saying it I was recommending you stick with the standard 151 that you know fits correctly and will filter better if you are sticking with regular oil change intervals ....A physically longer filter will end up looking like this when installed .....
Yes, that came out of a Slingshot ..... not mine ....

151 is the best choice to use. The 151A is not!

Problem solved!Mike, thanks for chiming in, and for using short words for Doug's benefit.

Absolutely.

I use the K & N PS-7000, around $8 at he parts store or about 1/2 price ($4.50) bulk buy or on the internet. I buy bulk because I have two vehicles to change at least every 5,000 miles. Hell! that is 5 oil changes a year just for the SS.

OK, I confused but that is not hard to do. At Walmart last week to get oil and filter. No Mobile 1 filters on shelves without "A" at end. Asked what was going on an they said that is the new number, same filter. I looked on Mobile 1's site and they show 151 as old number and 151A as new. I installed 151A, do I need to change it out? What is difference in 151 and 151A, still don't know? Saw what @MWSlingshot said above but would like to know difference in them, if any?
