I may keep the chrome pulley on and just keep a new drive belt onboard. The belt had bout 15000 miles on it with that drive pulley.

Yeah, and when it shits at 9500 miles unexpectedly in the middle of the swamp or desert because you've been romping on your new automatic or the new belt isn't quite as good as the previous one that lasted 15,000 miles, you're fucked. Cuz we ALL know YOU ain't changin' that shit out on the side of the road.

Does the pull of the automatic potentially cause the belt to wear faster? Is that the concern?

Maybe the guy that did his flamed wrap can wrap the pulley with aluminum foil so it matches the chrome

no. Not at all. It doesn't even now it's being powered by an automatic. If anything, it possibly could be easier since we cant drop the clutch and stress it in that manner.
