I know I can't be the only one that would like to put a kill switch on my Sling. I've researched and can't find anything that I like. Anyone?
BTW this is my first thread after all these months.
Kill Switch

-
I take it that you are looking at it from a Security standpoint?
-
Yes I am. Just a simple hidden switch to turn off the fuel pump or something similar. One of the first times I was at my dealer they had one in the back that had been stolen and wrecked.
-
Fastest, easiest way would be to wire the kill switch into the clutch switch so it can not be started with the ignition. that will not however stop someone from roll starting it. that would have to be done by killing the fuel pump, coils ect
-
I'd be interested in hearing the answer, if you ever get one.
-
I wonder if SS has a high theft rate. There are two types of thieves; professional thieves and joyriders/amateurs. The pros steal to sell it whole or sell for parts. Seems there would be little market for that; hence unlikely they would target it. The vast majority of joyriders/amateurs would not know how to hotwire (I bet most folks on this forum might have difficulty hotwiring a SS). Even if you left the key in the ignition, most would not know to engage the clutch and push the start button.
I'd be more worried about vandals or onlookers damaging the paint or interior. Kill switch won't stop that.

If you look in your owners manual there is a "lock out" code that can be entered using the menu button on your dash.

Canada only, though, right?

That's what it says, but if you follow the directions, my '15 had it. I haven't checked my new one.

I install a digital dawg guard keyless unit in my Slings. No more key for me to start it or for thiefs to hot wire. https://www.youtube.com/user/2GoKeyless

I guess I need to read that thing one of these days. Thanks for the tip.

Don't feel bad, I only noticed it 2 hrs before I totalled my Sling. And it was by accident, I inadvertently went through the steps and then paniced thinking I locked myself out. "Passcode? FUK, I don't know any passcode. Did I set one before?..Fuk!...."Then I consulted the manual.
-
My 15 SL, also displays the SECURE mode, but I'm not aware of a passcode number. I know I didn't enter one and if it really does function, can you lock yourself out by trying to enter a new code?
-
the preset code is 0000, any random numbers you enter will come back as "bad code". I got there and entered the wrong numbers accidently , Theoretically you can accidentally enter the right numbers and then a new code. You would have to be paying absolutely no attention.

I like the idea rabtech had with the front brake solenoid - with them locked you can't move it or steer it. I know his original intention was for burn outs but hell of an anti theft mechanism
-
Has anyone had their SS stolen? It just doesn't seem like something professional thieves would take and amateurs wouldn't know how to start it.

The problem there is the solenoid needs constant power to remain closed .... a manual line lock would work but you would have to plumb the line to somewhere hidden in the driver compartment .... -

I am sure you can get a solenoid that is closed normally and open under power. You add a switch for when power is on.
But that would be a rabtech question -

With all due respect that would be a really bad idea on a brake system ...you want it to fail open ...so you don't loose your brakes ....
