Shifter handle knob / I have seen a lot of variations on replacing the stock shifter handle. I am thinking about this however there is a lot of heat in that area. There is an attachment screw on the backside of the shifter handle and when I touch it it is quite hot. When installing a metal shifter knob does that heat transfer and make the new knob almost touchable with heat? The stock one being a rubber product does not have that issue but would like a fancier one. I am wondering about being able to touch the damn thing while underway. Thoughts?

I’m going to upgrade mine, but avoiding a metal one. While I didn’t think about heat transfer from the Slingshot itself I was concerned about if it’s sitting in the sun.
I plan on using this one....https://www.slingmods.com/polaris-slingshot-leather-shift-knob-aluminum-adapter-twist-dynamics?vehicle=3

I have a metal shift knob and have no issues with it being too hot to touch. After ordering a threaded shift knob adapter from Slingmods the options on shift knobs are endless. My shift knob isn't even threaded but instead comes with a plastic sleeve that goes over the threads and three set screws to keep it in place.

Made the mistake of installing a milled stainless steel shift knob on a convertible once ..... the first time I parked in the FL sun with the top down I had to remove it to drive home ...

My mistake. I thought it was cast metal. It is heavy and has the feel of a metal knob. Common sense should have told me that it would get hot in the sun.

I use a metal one made by @mytoy and it didn’t seem to be a major issue last summer. Occasionally I just throw a hat or rag over it if it will be sitting in the sun long. I have more issue with forgetting to flip the seat forward. Have burned my legs while wearing shorts several times. @HeRSling has a metal one also and hasn’t had a complaint. However, our highs are normally only mid nineties in the summer.

I have an aluminum shift knob on my short shifter. I haven’t noticed that it gets too hot. Down here our temperatures are usually in the mid 90’s.

Thats a good question,..I have never really noticed it even after an 8hr leg in the SS.

I have never paid any attention to the heat on the shift knob. I have the DDM stainless shift knob that I polished.

Shift knob was my first mod. living it the desert knowing my sling would be parked in the sun I knew I didnt want a metal shift knob as it would be guaranteed to get burning hot. after looking at what was offered I went with the twist dynamics carbon fiber knob. they have three sizes and I chose the middle ovel shaped knob. I love it and even on 110 degree days it has never gotten uncomfortably hot to the touch. in this picture it still has the stock boot I recommend that you replace that at the same time the second picture is with the replacement boot - I think it looks much better

Yea, I knew it was coming . But there was no other way

I have the Assault Industries black anodized aluminum (or may be steel, not positive) one. At best it's warm, but no where near uncomfortable to use. It is cold if I'm out early in the morning in the spring or fall though, at least until the Slingshot gets warmed up.
