@sideseatdriver found a local curling league that was giving free introductory lessons/hands-on experience in curling tonight. Lots of fun!
Slingshots on ice - next stop, Olympics!

Bottom line: Curling is way harder than it looks, but could definitely be a lot of fun! We had a blast, just not the right time to join a league.

The only time you will hear women scream the word HARDER

I guess I understood the sport wrong. I practiced for the Olympics, but wasn't chosen for the team. I thought it was the HURLING team
-
Very cool @KayTwo & @sideseatdriver!!
-
That's pretty cool. Do you have to use special shoes or anything like that? I've never walked on ice other than when shit freezes over on my driveway and that's no fun
-
We learned last night that they do have special shoes, but for stuff like this, they just have a slip-on shoe cover to give you the non-skid effect on the one foot, and then you step on a sliding pad to simulate the other shoe. They use Teflon.

Not true.
You just haven't found the right women.... -
So what do the brooms actually do?
-
Why don’t they just slide it and let go and don’t have two guys cleaning a pathway?

Those are really good questions, and we actually learned how it works. Those brooms are used to clean the ice, but it's not just the sweeping action that we thought. What they are doing is actually melting the top layer of the ice long enough for the stone to glide over it. It reduces the coefficient of friction because of the thin layer of water sitting on the ice. When they do that, it also gives the added effect of making the rock go straighter instead of curling. There are some more advanced things you can do, like cleaning only one side of the path the rock is traveling, to influence it to go slightly to one side or the other, but for most competitors, they are using it to straighten the path. -

Note to self: Hire these “broom pushers” to get the most AMAZING shop scrub as the sawdust piles grow!

Some would argue that he isn't playing the "game" to its potential....

Awesome stuff, I have always wanted to try it! Did you on that throw?
-
Why don't they just use the top of the Dirt Devil and let the vacuum cleaner do the work for them?
-
Curling just doesn't look that hard, even a blonde can do it.
