Guys is this normal? It has done this from day 1 and it drives me crazy when I do a sharp turn out of garage or anywhere.
Feels like steering is on a maxed out spring feel. Please watch video and let me know your opinions. Thx
Steering Clicking Noise 2018 SLR

Probably the clock spring

Probably the clock spring
easy dealer fix hopefully?
-
Yep...
-
Should be easy fix, if you have a good service dept at your dealer. And no, it's not normal. My 2016.5 SL with near 26k on it has never done that. I've even changed out the steering wheel and put on a hub adapter. So my clock spring has been out, and back in. Twice actually, as I was sent the wrong steering wheel the first time and didn't notice it at first.
-
They are finicky. Mine was making a scraping sound which I thought was from me jacking it when I used a puller on the stock wheel. Turns out it was the shroud around it was not properly seated. You could try re-torqueing the center nut to spec but I'd let the dealer deal with it.
Remember, even a stopped clock-spring is right twice a day.....?
-
Mine clicks a ton! And I have yet to try getting the hub off again... No more warranty though...
-
I have put over 60,000 miles on a 2015 and 2016 and NEVER heard that type of clicking ---- (wife says I never listen) However I do listen to the Slingshot.
-
My 15 made a similar sound and then started a rubbing sound. It was the clock spring. Dealer gave me a new one and I put it in. My dealer is good about letting me do my own work when I want. They gave me a new screen and then a radio and let me install. Also, new black panels for my hood and new side pods. Still have the black panels. Traded while in Maggie last year. Wife's 15 has only had swingarm recall. NO other issues.

I have a 2017 SLR with the same problem, same sound, I called the dealer and he ordered a clock spring, said he will call me when it comes in
-
I could duplicate that sound when I put an aftermarket hub and steering wheel on. The clockspring could tweak a bit as the wheel turned. It's not a good thing.

Probably the clock spring
@CHAP-SS has the same problem, when he turns the steering wheel the horn will blow and he has the ticking noise when turning the wheel

Somebody listed a replacement clock spring once... I think @mytoy?
Since I'm out of warranty... And cheap... Looking for my best options... Pardon, I'm frugal, not cheap...
This is the one I used.
-
Thanks @dangerdarrell and @mytoy... For $70+, It's on the list of mods...
I don't mind a little click here or there... Will turn up the radio...

This is the one I used.
@CHAP-SS and @Andy Allen you see this?
