here in ontario Canada we only get 5 digits for motorcycle plates so very limited in choice. We pay $310 for the plate for a car or motorcycle then standard licence fee every year. Tried to get EFNEH but got denied so settled on CDNSS for the sling and the pic is for my other sporty vehicle
Texas has varied prices, I think $70 a year is the cheapest and can go up to about $200, depending on what plate you want. Some plates let you do 6 characters for a motorcycle, others only 3. Their site is confusing, they want you to go buy one from myplates.com which is more expensive, but there are still some cheaper ones available directly from texas.gov. Myplates does have some cool designs, and I think the cheapest is around $110 a year, if you buy it 5 years in advance.
This is all for personalized. If you just want one of the neat plates and they put a random set of characters, it's cheaper.
Of course, this is just plate fees, registration is not included.
chavey2, there are two sites to get plates from for Texas. It's confusing on how they lay them out, but most of the newer plates can only be ordered through the myplates.com site, which are more expensive.
This is how I find the plate I'm looking for.
Go to https://www.txdmv.gov/motorist…/specialty-license-plates which is linked off of txdmv.gov and it will show all of the plates, on the right hand side is the various categories, but if you click on something like Colleges and Universities, it will show plates from both TX and myplates.com.
I've found if I filter by type and leave out the my plates list, I can find the cheaper ones:
Check the Charity and/or Qualifying, leave the My Plates unchecked
Here is the cheaper plate from Tx and not from my plates:
and here is an example of one from myplates:
This all works great for cars, but you notice there are no motorcycle listings, which is what we need for our SS. Click order on any TX plate (not my plates) and it opens up another tab/window to a renew.txdmv.gov page that you can't seem to get to directly, but it has a Motorcycle and Moped :
Guess I should make this a blog post to help any other Texans out.
