I’m at work so using my phone is a pain trying to use search engine.
Has anyone put a switch on or wired up camera to stay on while driving?
If it’s already covered somewhere, link please?
Thank you, Joe
Backup camera, can it be turned on all the time?

Try these. Might have some nuggets of intel for you.

Unfortunately neither of these threads provided the answer we ( JoeF. or I ) are looking for. What we would like to do is to activate the factory reverse camera at any time we like while traveling down the road. I would be happy with a momentary switch that activated it for as long as you held the switch or that activated the view for a predetermined and adjustable amount of time. Others might want a rocker style switch that would keep it on until turned off.It would seem that this should be an easy mod. The system has to be activated by one of the wires going to the two connectors on the transmission. Keep in mind that normally anytime that the reverse camera is on the reverse lights are also on. I would not want to cause the reverse lights to be activated going down the highway as the local state troopers would have a field day with that and the fact that it could be dangerous to other drivers.
If time permits I will look into it in the near future. It would really help if I had access to the electrical schematic for a 2018 model SLR LE!
NOTE* I did see at the bottom of one of the threads that slingmods was working on a kit but I'm not sure said kit will do what I am suggesting.

I know I have seen it before, but it may not be in its own thread. So eone here has written about it, though. You might have to look inside that 700+ page monster thread on mods. I'll try some more searches too.
@Tripod, you got anything?
Yes, someone did put the camera on a switch. It was way back, but I do not remember when of where.I think I found it on the Dark Side thread is "Back up camera wiring Sept.29,2015

Yep. Install roof - mount rear view mirror - problem resolved with outstanding rear visibility!

@Roy658, @ericastar76, @Slingrazor...looking for how to rig a stock stereo and back-up camera on a switch to turn on when not in reverse. Thought I've seen it here somewhere, but can't remember. Do you remember who, or know how?

Exactly what I want to do!!

There is also another thread called "Backup camera to switch" on TDS

All you have to do is wire the activation wire comming out of the head unit to either ground or power. Matters how it is designed.

Think this is the first time I have seen your sling. Very nice!!

While I agree with you that it should be that simple I would hate to risk ruing an expensive ride command system grounding a wire that shouldn't be grounded or vice versa! LOL -

Thanks @FunCycle I will do a search! -
Well said. I don't blindly hook anything up without using a fluke meter. After I check the source, I would connect the trigger wire.
All I was saying is the basics to get the camera to turn on is either a ground or aux power. -
Our slings use a positive negative to actuate the lights. The ground triggers the relay for power.

So what your saying is that the relay is powered all the time and when the transmission is put into reverse it provides a ground to the relay turning on the reverse lights?

I would have to check the reverse circuit. That is how your break lights work.
