• could have used one of those 30 years ago .... would have taken my laser tag game to the next level - dare i say, perhaps even professional

Seriously, i have to forget this page and that product - i dont need a sense of safety from tickets

  • I run the Escort Max 360 in my truck. And the Escort Max in my slingshot. And the Escort Redline in my wife's Mercedes.

They are all great detectors. Mine saves me from a ticket probably 2 times a week. Most of the troopers and city sit still and the trigger radar. With these you can pick up any triggers up to 2 miles away. Especially the Redline. It's has went off over 3 miles away.

Basically if you hear one if them chirp just hit the brakes. He is around somewhere...

They won't help you when you pop over a blind hill and meet the law and they pull the trigger. But they will keep you from just blindly running past one that has been triggering people way in front of you.

P.S. The Redline is not detectable by radar detector detectors. It is invisible. The Max series is detectable.

  • Not legal in Virginia. I think the ticket is $100, and they are likely to confiscate your detector. I know of one guy who had it built in pretty firmly, and they towed his vehicle because he could not just pull it out to hand over -though the guy is odd, and there may be more to that story.

In my county, Fairfax, they are all Lidar. Good luck detecting that. You just detect that your sorry ass is about to get pulled over - ditch the joint, and stash the whiskey under the seat. The LEO will not be nice about it. There are signs at all major state border crossings.

DC is the same. Very few DC LEOs are nice, unless you have DC plates.

    YMMV,

    -e

Edit: If in VA or DC, just turn it off. If they don't detect your detector, you might be okay. It is illegal to use it, not own it, as best as I understand.

Check your statute, here is illegal to even have uninstalled sealed in the box..... :00007983:

Is not that I am mean, I just don't sugarcoat what I say.

Dunno, I ain't no lawyer. Never had one, and it won't help me where I live, so not completely on top of things.

But, if you follow my advice to ditch the joint and hide the booze, they are unlikely to search your car for a detector or anything else. Around here, that would be one very sour LEO to write you up for a boxed detector. They will be on your ass if they detect your detector, otherwise they have better things to do. Too many terrorists, drunk drivers, and drug dealers tooling through from Florida and NYC.

  • Look at this stuff..

For the record I have plead guilty to 5 over to avoid the points....several times..over the years..

  • I ran radar detectors for years. Finally realized that if I only run 7 or 8 MPH over, they leave me alone. There's always one that's a jerk, so that is just rule of thumb. Here in Indiana if you pay an up charge, and have no moving violations for a year, the ticket doesn't go on your record, nor does the insurance company find out. I may or may not have done that twice. :00008084: But I've been really lucky, and don't want to ruin my streak. I've been stopped twice in the SS, but both times I was let off with a warning. The last time he had me dead to rights, I was passing and letting it eat. Wasn't looking at the speedometer, but likely was 85-90 in a 55 when he pegged me. State police local to me (the ones that run looking for speeders or drug runners) drive hopped up Mustang GTs and are hard to spot. The one that got me was in a fast red one.

  • I read that as "Here in IN, we have a government-sanctioned bribery program..."

Govt = Mafia. You'll get no argument from me on that. However, no points off license, and no increased premiums has a good ring to it. There's a reason the Mafia/Govt can provide a service.... The people will still use said service. Even if I feel it's very much a bribery program.

Yeah, I miss the good old days when cops only drove a Crown Vic.

Here, they have unmarked Mustangs, unmarked Camaros and sorta marked Explorers. The Explorers have a very, very low profile light bar on top which looks more like a luggage rack, and cop markings only on the side. Nearly impossible to tell from a side view mirror. And, helicopters...

So, yeah, I too try to keep it 7 to 8 mph over. If people are blasting past me, I feel good. More than a decade without a ticket. Track day (3x this year) consumes what is left of the testosterone in my system, so I can calmly tool around town.

In S.C. we had at least one BMW, that was given to the HP when BMW moved into Greenville.

  • As a general rule, in Texas, if you keep it to 9 over the cops will leave you alone. The exception is school zones where they will start tagging at 5 over. Of course there are jerks and exceptions. DPS (highway patrol) occasionally drop their tolerance to 5 over on the highway but they have a problem meeting the burden of “ unreasonable and imprudent” in court
