I don't know the answer but just like my Ducati the words cheap, and Slingshot should never be used in the same sentence.RNJ12

Yay another ducati owner..... more truthful words have never been spoken.
@Murder After Midnight even though it has an GM engine we are not buying parts for a chevy, limited market makes the parts "expensive".
There is a thread by @Ruptured Duck where he explains how he changed the springs in his stock shocks for QA springs and he said it improved the ride quite a bit.

I was in shock ”shock” myself over the prices.
We’re a captive audience
They have you hooked now you’ll be filleted. -
On top of the initial cost, it is recommended that you overhaul the shocks every two years to the tune of approximately $200 each, at least that was the last figure quoted me..............
We have a set of take-offs hanging on the wall obtained from a fellow owner for when replacement will be required.

This question comes up often for the new riders, my answer would be how much can your back or wallet stand?
I went with ALPHA / JRI adjustable back in 2/15 when they came out and would do it again.
Do you want the best performance that can be dialed in for comfort daily driving or do you want the back beater oem that are barely a basic shock.
The JRI are the only shock designed for the slingshot, not just a converted shock choice like QA1, the testing results back up what I'm saying, and not saying QA1 are not good, just a comparison as many guys use them.
The rebuild-able shock can be put back to its best condition where as oem just get tossed. The JRI at its worst is way better than oem brand new.
Its a very expensive decision, and if your not hitting the twisties hard then you don't need performance shocks, but if you want a smoother less jarring daily driver then a custom set up is required. I like the adjustable so I can dial it in the way I want it, when I want it.

Just a lil sample of what I believe the OP is referring, these are the various choices we have for our "car":
OK, none are adjustable, but, still a major cost difference compared to the SlingShot??

Here is another choice Bill.
KSport® CVW040-ASO - Volkswagen Jetta 2001 Airtech Front and Rear Air Strut Assemblies
The slingshot numbers are so small that we are limited to companies that want to invest with little return.
-
There is a considerable difference in weight of the Jetta and SS. I believe that would definitely influence how well these shocks would work on the SS. Just my opinion which is worth what you paid for it.
-
Yes, WingShot, there is an option to pay much much more for shocks if that is your choice, but, where is the choice of options where the SlingShot is concerned? We simply are not going to pay $1,000 plus for shocks and still have to pay $100 per year each to keep them maintained. Like I said previously, we have a set of stock shocks hanging on the wall if they ever become needed.........

I believe the cheapest option for shocks out there is what came on the Slingshot from the factory. In all seriousness though I wish I would have done tires and shocks first. Those 2 things will make your SS an entirely different animal on the road. I know when you look at some prices it makes your stomach hurt but save up bite the credit card bullet and buy some nice shocks you won't regret it.

I was at my dealer a couple weeks ago for a check on some recall work there was a guy test driving one and the salesman asked me to take his wife and follow him and the husband. So we go for a 15 minute ride come back. I talk to the guy exchange numbers give him the slinshotinfo website and say call me if you buy. So last week I get a call from him. He says what have I done to mine I give him the list and we discuss what I would do or not do or do different. He asked me to come and take him for a ride in mine because his wife said ours rides like shit compared to that other guys why and she didn't like riding in it. I'm going to try to get out to him this weekend and take him for a spin in mine. Shocks and tires that would be there first thing I would change. But I get it. You buy this machine and can't imagine dumping X amount of money into something that's brand new. But hey this is America we are Americans. BIGGER, FASTER, LOUDER that's the American way. MERICA

In all honesty even though the initial cost may be a bit pricey we would still prolly go for it, it is the recommended maintenance every two years at $200 + shipping per shock which is really the deal killer.

-
To be heard you DON'T have to rebuild them, the 2 years is an industry standard for all coilovers, you can compare it to rotating tires is recommended you do it but nothing "bad" will happen if you don't
-
On my race truck yes i have the coilovers redone every year. For SS that I drive on weekends, cruise nights and sometimes to work I'm not really concerned.
-
I didn't want to spend that much either, but got in a group buy for Alpha GT's (which were still pricey). My OEM shocks are in the box being saved. If I ever sell the Sling (doubtful), they will go back on and I will sell the Alpha's. Would I trade the ride, NEVER!
-
So actually how much difference do these shocks make in the ride and handling? 10%-20%?
