I'm wondering how many people are in just to donate, and how many are in just to get the free gift for donors.

Have @sideseatdriver set up the fund, and find out! We seem to have adopted your family, and may very well raise enuf to help more than 1 family!

Did I miss something??? I was in before I knew about cookies. Now I'm in for more!
However, just got my tests back from doctor. Seems I have to cut down drastically on the cookies.
I'm still in though. -

@sideseatdriver, Heather I'm thinking we should just use your nomination. All seem to be on board with it. If someone wants to nominate another, we likely could help them also. With so many on the forum now, even if only a small percentage could and would give, it would amount to some nice change for the person in need. There are 1431 members currently on here. Even if only 5% gave, and only gave $10 each, that would amount to over $700. We should be able to easily sponsor a few families if everyone just stepped up.
We are sponsoring a family in our county. Meijer (Like Walmart, but better in my opinion) is doing a donation match. The cost to sponsor a family is $550. Meijer is matching that, so the family will get $1100. It will vary depending on the families needs, but will always include food for a great Christmas dinner, and if nothing else a gift card to be redeemed at Meijer. There aren't many limitations on how the money can be spent, other than it must be used in their store. If the family prefers to give a list, Meijer will get clothes, toys, groceries, anything the family requests and even gift wrap it before delivering it. The reason I'm mentioning this, is that Walmart or if you have a Meijer locally, may do something similar and be able to help us get more for the family in need. I think Meijer is more mid west only, but it still might be worth looking into at a store more local to you.

Brett, I like your idea. Maybe I'll go into a couple of the local stores in uniform (which folks around here seem to respond well to) and speak to a couple managers. I have to check the ethics rules, see if I am allowed, but...that could be good. Thanks!

@sideseatdriver one more thing. I would suggest setting this up as a Paypal thing, or have checks mailed to you for it. If you use Paypal, and check the "send money to a friend" it doesn't cost anything to transfer the money, so 100% goes to the ones that need it. Many of the sites that let you set up something like this charge for it. Go Fund Me charges 20% I believe it was. I won't do the Go Fund Me, instead I'll contact the person if I believe it's a need that I support. I'll either send it to their Paypal or mail them a check.
