What about chrome-plating the factory wheels? Is that doable?

I doubt it would be cost effective. It was a fortune to have my roll bars chromed. I am pretty sure you could find a chrome wheel cheaper than trying to chrome the stock wheels. (Very labor intensive)

You can check my build post ...I painted mine and so for they have been very durable but I will tell you if I had it to do over I would powder coat because of the amount of work required to paint...hope this helps send me a message if you have any questions

I had mine powder coated gloss white and spokes red, really happy how they turned out.

I was thinking of chroming my wheels until I got the quote from a outfit in Atl. $800 each wheel. I'm going with powder coating.

I believe Jason Tung at getyourwheels.com can get you chrome wheels that look close to stock. Price is fair!!

Bottom-line: It's a cast aluminum wheel, just like the ones on any other street vehicle. It can be painted, powder-coated, polished, or plated, just like any other wheel. It may not be cheap to have it done, but it can be done.
Oh yeah... if someone tells you a wheel can't hold up to the heat of powder-coating, they are lying or misinformed. If a shop tells you the wheel can't be powder-coated, that is because they can't do it or they don't know what they are doing. If heated too fast and/or unevenly, yes, the wheel can warp. A true professional knows how to control the heating process so warping is not an issue.

@MWSlingshot Nice "powder". I have been looking at new wheels but just can't seem to decide what to do so I have decided to "powder coat" my stock wheels. Was thinking doing a solid Blue Fire but perhaps a black with Blue similar to yours. Would love to see a picture with these on your ss.

Those were a set of Slingshot wheels that the powder coating guy had done for someone else. Mine will be done by the end of this month. Had to wait due to funds being a bit short. I’ll submit photos of them when they are all done.

@MWSlingshot Did you get your wheels powdered yet? Trying to decide if i go the paint route or the powder coating route....

They are ready, I just haven’t gotten them mounted and balanced yet to put back on!
