Hey Slingers. Just went for a test ride today and LOVE IT. Now deciding on a color, going with an SL over an S, black or dark blue. The dealer has black and red on site but not a navy blue one which I like the looks of. Question all the black plastic on the bottom and inside what is used to clean it? Want it clean but not shiny and a dust magnet? Does anyone use a floor mat that won't hold water or block the drain holes? Also can you drive the slingshot up normal car ramps to drain the oil and get under the vehicle? Thanks for the help all. I'm sure I'll have other questions.
Slingshot almost owner.

welcome aboard @Autocycle SL
1. Everything from soap and water to Pledge to expensive cleaners ...... depends on your OCD and wallet
2. Some wash after every ride others only once or twice a season - see #1 above
3. Yes. Dont drive in the rain at speeds over 40 - many have tried. Lots of after market options or materials if you make your own mods
4. Normal ramps probably not .... need less of an angel with the front end on the SlingshotLooking forward to pictures of your ride and adventures

Thanks Ross. Why not drive in rain over 40mph?

With a single wheel in back providing power it is not hard to hydroplane in a very small amount of standing water ... drive it like a stolen go-cart ... respect it like a motorcycle .... and try to keep that shit eating grin closed when the bugs are thick
-
It's fine if you don't mind spinning Actually, I have maintained 55 on the interstate in the rain but you have to be very careful and watch for any deep water. Like one half inch. Hydroplanes pretty easily.

My dealer told me the traction control takes care of that. (Yea Right.)

He lies!

From my understanding DYI oil change is easy
As others said....1 rear wheel (other cars leaking oil down the center of the lane).... standing water..... catastrophic failure waiting to happen lol
2 years later & a little cash spent on mods (none to the engine though ) and I still love it. -
LOL - like I said many have been successful and many have not
Well guys... Didn't want to say anything until Jim got some needed time off... Even now it may be too soon, but y'all with your peer pressure...
On the way home from visiting my brother in Dallas... I got rain on the 45 south to Houston... It rained for a good portion... Well, it wasn't until I was about 60 miles from home, already in the greater metropolitan area of Houston... Conroe and the Woodlands specifically, that I crossed two streams of water that were rushing down the highway as runoff from a bridge above the highway... Thankfully I had decided to get on the farthest left HOV lane... This lane also had a left shoulder to work with...Well... As I approached those streams... Probably going between 60 and 70, I thought, "are those going to cause a problem?"
I gripped the wheel tightly... Drove over... And sure enough... the back tire let loose and I was sideways, still going south quickly and facing the concrete barrier... I quickly spun the wheel back and ended up turning enough to just slam my left wheel into the concrete... It caused me to ricochet and then scrape my left panels across the concrete... The force then spun me towards traffic, but still in the shoulder and HOV lane area so I didn't get hit by any traffic, but finally ended up facing north, looking at oncoming traffic. Let me tell you... I don't know how I didn't get hit by any 18 wheelers or other traffic... Honestly, the damage was minor in my opinion...
I sat there gathering myself and thoughts, then got out and assessed the damage... It was all on the left...
That wheel really took most of the impact... I don't think stock wheels would have held up as well... But who knows?
After that it was a bit of process trying to get turned around on the 45 (for those that know Houston traffic, it was nonstop)... But I managed... and then going slow, though everyone around me was going fast, I was able to exit the highway and pull into a lot.
I mentioned in another thread to @Bill Martin that our buddy @TX Slingshot helped me out, well he did! Got me trailered home as the dealer was closed Monday and insurance wasn't going to cover a 60 mile tow...
So there you have it... Jim... I'm sorry! Whatever I owe you, let me know...
Special thanks to @DKF Texas, @jorgebri60, and @Slingrazor for being there with various supports...
Those who ride in rain... Just be safe! When it happens, it's going to happen...
The actual rain wasn't even too bad... I had worse going to Atlanta and then Indiana! But that's how it goes...
Anyway, new wheels ordered and panels shipped to @Painter... Hopefully she's back up, pieced together and no serious damage has been done (aside from an obvious alignment I need)...
Many have been just fine while others have not been .... just a heads up - I think the above is the most recent casualty from hydroplaning - @MiM sure didn't expect it or deserve it but his warning has been heard loud and clear by many

ummmm Gold Digger no Mmmmm Boop no Enter Sandman

I won't do it again after Marco but I have filled my cup holders it was raining so hard on the way to @SlingRider house.
-
Fall out boy - Thanks for the memories.
Now eff you, I'm going to have that song in my head now.

Wow didn't think of that as the tire is always down the middle of the lane. I know on my test ride I couldn't avoid the man hole covers in the middle of the road either. Is it better to let the front wheels hit the bumps if able to or the rear?
-
you'll learn in no time how to avoid them and stay in your lane or if you want a suspension upgrade

Just go drive the wheels off it. You'll figure it out.

Hey guys how do you quote someone's post? Also how do your user names come up with @ in front of them and italics?

are you on a PC, apple, or Android?

Type the @ symbol, and then the first few letters of their name...you'll get some pop-up choices.
