Polaris Slingshot officialy banned from Ct united Ride!

  • This is just a looser trying to flex muscle he never had. It's a way of power/ control. It's a charity and no one should be turned away from a charity/fundraiser ride. There's different ways to go about. Like you said @Tony Z guys a F-Ing Looser!!

I Have No more toys, just memories.... :/

  • I just don't get why slingshot drivers care to be in the motorcycle events. Yes the states are classifying it under the MC statute so we are allowed to buy them and Polaris doesn't have to make them safe, but to call this thing a motorcycle is illogical.
Other than the charity aspect it makes no sense to care 1 way or the other if my SS is allowed.

  • It's pretty logical to think it's a motorcycle when the VIN plate has motorcycle on it. I get it, it's not a bike but nothing with three wheels is.
The funny part is that lots of charity rides here allow rat rods, jeeps, classics and others. It's about raising money for charity.

Actually the Fed classified it as a motorcycle as it's the only place it fits. So until something changes with the Fed makes a new class, it's a motorcycle. I am required to have a MC endorsement and wear a helmet, that would not be the case unless it's a motorcycle.
So your asking why someone would want to take a motorcycle to a motorcycle ride is illogical. :)

Okay apparently it means a lot to you to win the argument, but come on now.....it is a looooooongggggggg stretch to call it that.... a cock pit & a steering wheel, hell 4 wheel conversions..... I mean come on now lets be honest.
I can get a Mazda Miata converted to 3 wheels can I then reclassify it as a motorcycle.
Because some rich corporation payed off the people in charge so they can circumvent the airbag and safety rules.
For the record in Texas it is an "autocycle" under the MC class - so those rules above can be circumvented, but Texas was smart enough to look at it and see its no motorcycle so lets give it its own class.
(no MC endorsement or helmet required)

Still waiting to see one of these Autocycle titles, someone should post a pic.

  • OK, now for the contrarian view. Just because it's registered as a motorcycle doesn't make it one. To wit: it has a car engine, 5-speed shift, roll bar, seat belts, and the passenger sits to your side. Compare to Can Am Spyder which has a motorcycle shift system, saddle, and passenger sits behind. Until the government catches up with a new classification (e.g. autocycle), they are basically doing Polaris a favor by allowing it to be registered as something it's not. If that wasn't the case, you would not be riding a SS today. So stop all the whining, you can call it whatever floats your boat. But the SS IS a 3-wheel car, and probably at some time in the future one will only need a car's driving permit in every state. I know it's ridiculous to need a motorcycle endorsement, but that's just the system, so Polaris could get them on the road. Now please don't flame me, I'm just saying the emperor is not wearing any clothes!

  • I just call it fun...could care less what everyone else calls it

For the record I agree with you @MACAWS I don't really care, but I don't understand why people are so hung up on being left out of MC events.
The real loser on some of them are the charities if the event is for charity, other than that why does it bother some peeps?

  • It is unfortunate that a 9/11 tribute ride cannot find a way to include more people and their street legal vehicles for a great cause - monies that are raised go to the family emergency relief funds for CT Police Officers, CT Fire Fighters and two local United Ways. I understand the idea of trying to keep it like it was initially but I'm certain that the LEOs, fire fighters, and United Way would not turn away some extra monies to help those in need

Law enforcement will escort what ever you get a permit for. The initial post about law enforcement being an issue is BS. I've escorted everything from antique cars and tractors to oversize loads that closed the interstate. The guy should just man up and say no slingshot and be done with it.
The mixed rides/cruises stage the vehicles by wheels 2-3-4- more, no issues.
