Who uses an alarm on their slingshot.

  • This could be one of those [how-to] post that can only go so far. After a certain point in the instructions it would be like a [how-to] steal my slingshot.. :D:D

While I have them on all my bikes they are really not to prevent theft and I doubt any would slow down a professional. Even the tracking alarms are useless since signal blockers are readily available (causing the eminent death of Lojack) but more to keep otherwise honest people off (or out) of them. Many good people seem to loose their mind around shiny things and a long time ago I became tired of finding them taking pictures of their sticky fingered kids sitting on my bikes kicking the tank ...... I have absolutely no tolerance for disrespecting other peoples property so its as much to prevent me from being carted away to the pokey as it (the perimeter sensor) is a active deterrent. Look.....don't touch unless you ask first.....

I can tell you though, with its idiosyncrasies and sensitive systems I certainly would not let some teenage kid at a box store who may have never even seen a SLingshot before bug into any of my wiring ........

  • is there a limit to the daily updates on the kryptonite alarm?

And if there isn't a limit , do they offer a plugin for a website to allow the feed to be pushed to that plugin. (can we put the tracking info on a website of our own)

There's no limit to the updates that I'm aware of. I don't know about the plugins. It would be a nice feature though.

  • @Tripod & @Orangeman....did you guys install these yourselves, and if so, how was the install...any issues, and tips????I'm thinking about buying a system, and want to know if install could be problematic, or fairly straight forward, Thanks!

Yes, self-installed. I thought it was pretty straightforward. For the Scorpio, there is a "how to" thread 'over there' that I saw AFTER I had installed mine. Guess it all depends on how comfortable you are with wiring...

  • Viper.. I can arm/disarm from my iphone and it will send me a text message and email if my alarm is triggered or if battery voltage drops below a certain threshold. Also has backup battery in case the main battery is disconnected.

  • I laughed at the idea of an alarm till the other day when it was parked at our local sports complex. I came back to find mud caked footprints in my passenger seat. My mind blew a gasket at this point.

What is a reasonable price to expect from a decent alarm with perimeter protection installed?

  • The nerve of people never stops to amaze me. I got an install estimate. 3 mile range notifications to your phone, proximity alarm and starter kill with a proximity key fab. The estimate came to 700.00 installed.

I just ordered the Scorpio i900 earlier today from Revzilla for $379. I know there are cheaper versions out there, but the price didn't scare me, considering the alternative. I don't use my phone or tablet too much for apps, so for me, I wasn't interested in an app based alarm, remote start, or an alarm that cost me monthly payments for monitoring......not that there is anything wrong with those type of alarms, they just weren't what I was looking for. Depending on how you want to interact with an alarm might be a good start point for doing research and arriving at the system that will work best for you.

If I ever caught a person in or touching my Sling, I would end up arrested!

Hey Bro, did you get the perimeter sensor? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it - it's a cheap add-on & keeps people away from your SS. Sensitivity is adjustable. If you get that module, hit me up in a conversation for some tips...

Yes. I was thinking the perimeter sensor was as important as the alarm itself, and well worth the $$!!! That way we know if some moron is sticking his head where it shouldn't be.....or worse. There's places we want to go, but don't want our Sling left out of our sight that long. This alarm (with sensor) should help us relax a little. I like that it can send your FOB a silent alarm first, if someone is a little too close, then if they get closer, or stay too close long enough...it'll give them a good "Get the hell away from me!!" Blast of the alarm!!! I'll be sure to PM you @Tripod when I get the system.....thanks!!!!
I'm like @Orangeman & @BONES.......I knew if I didn't get something to help keep idiots off of my Sling, sooner or later, someone would end up on the wrong side of this old dog, it wouldn't be pretty, and I'd need bail money. So I'm being pro-active, and spending my bail money a little more wisely.....I hope!!!!

  • How much is that going to set you back Astrolite?

I thought I was going to get a better deal than what it actually ended up. Best Buy will, and did, match Amazon's prices which saved me some money. But then, because they were matching Amazon's price, they tagged on $119 installation fee and then there is an additional $60 installation fee for each sensor. All said and done about $525. If I was going to do it over I might go with the Scorpio alarm and install it myself for around $425. The Scorpio installation instructions look much easier than the Viper.

I had Best Buy install the Viper 3305V today. The technician did a great job. I was very impressed by the fact that he had studied up on the install, before I came in, by going to the company's internal forum and reading about the @kenny_h install that his technician had posted. Very neat and professional install.

I was stranded at the store during the 5 hour install, that's not a good thing, I damn near bought a TV!

Congrats on the install. Best Buy is the one store my wife hates to see. I can burn a debit card in half in no time!
