Drift start

Hey @Ruptured Duck, I had a 62 Cherokee with column shift. Loved that vehicle. Had the 327 Bombardier engine. Had to argue with a kid at Autozone one day when he insisted Cherokees that year only had Chevy 350s. When I took him out and showed him the original labels on the engine he said someone must have changed it out. Went back in and asked for someone old enough to know something about engines.
Here you go.... In our collection at work.

I learnt how to drive on the back roads of northern Michigan standing on my grandfathers lap while he pushed the pedals. Old dodge 3 on the tree. Rode like a lumber wagon
-
Ok, my starter keeps not working....had to get a push start.....in the old days you could replace the solenoid separately ...so can you still do that or is it a complete starter change? And is it covered under warranty?
-
Unless you did something to cause the failure of the starter and they can prove it then of course it is covered under warranty.
-
With more frequency whenever I hit the start button you hear a very slight click and nothing happens.... and if the dealer can't make it not work will they change it because I said it doesn't work all the time?
-
All depends on your dealer.
-
I changed the starter under warranty over a year ago and that did not fix the problem.
As I said before the problem is in your battery connections. Something is causing you to not have enough voltage going to the starter to push the gear past the flywheel teeth. When this starts to happen I remove the battery cables and clean the posts and it goes away for a couple of months.
No the solenoid can not be changed independently of the starter. Have you tried rocking the sling while in gear when this happens? You have to rock it hard enough to get the flywheel to move just a bit. -

Catastrophic starter problem:
damn....I was afraid of that....
I just had the clamps off last month and there was no sign of corruption on the posts...but I'll look again.... now I'll have to park it on a hill so I can drift it down...
I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to find out where the catastrophic backordered brake sensors are and talk to him about the starter issue to see what he says....and my turn signal lack of cancellation..
-
Holy freakin embarrassment....stopped at a road side stand for some corn...got back in and the stupid starter just clicked...the lady in the stand says "do you need a jump?" I said no it's worse than that I need a push....baddest vehicle in the entire world and this older lady comes out and starts to push the SS with me in it....it was just enough to get the starter to come off the dead spot so I could use the starter button to start it...
Everything is supposed to be fixed starting the 31st..
-
Ooooooopppppppssssss, must have missed the earlier post about rocking the Sling in gear.
Reading.... naaaawwwwwww !

It's seems it acts up after a long ride of at least 25 miles...now I'm wondering if the starter or solenoid is getting hot and doing funny things .. anyone else have starter issues after a long ride...trying to restart it after few minute shut down.

Good point! I love Vettes.
-
If I wanted a vette I would have bought one...I wanted a slingshot...now I'm all yours...

Bump start, because you roll it down hill and just bump the clutch enough to spin the engine over.
Learned to drive in a 1937 Hudson Terraplane, three on the floor with the "Magic Hand" on the column. Then I moved up to a 1938 Plymouth, then my brothers 1949 Dodge. All manual three speeds and flat head engines.
P.S. Notice I called them "engines" and not motors.

The first thing I thought was starter solenoid...that's how it acted...then the clutch safety switch...I'm going to check that wire hanging down to see what's going on..
That all said I've checked out small jump boxes and this one looks like the one I'm buying because it comes with a small air pump too....it has really good reviews ..
Rugged Geek Portable Booster Pack Emergency Jump Starter and Power Supply with LCD Display (RG1000 Safety Plus w/ Air Compressor)
Don't bother looking for a lower price I did and every site has the same price listed..
Hi, have you had to use the power supply or compressor yet? If so, were u happy with it? I'm looking to buy one but some of the review on this item, including the bulky clips, weren't great.
