Conservative Politics & Daily Events Discussion

  • It think the blew past "appearance" with the ones they found in a school closet.

St Joe county --- South Bend, IN didn't count any of the absentee ballots on Tue evening....So the announced totals did not include any of those numbers... Not sure if they ever figured out what was happening. The conservatives for house and senate won by enough that it would not change whose wins...

Not necessarily anything nefarious with that. Schools are a very common place for voting polls. Closets are common places to keep things safe. If a machine fills up, you empty it. If they brought early ballots there to be ran through the machines, which is what we do, if you work the polls. You get a huge, non-stop rush of voters and you could forget about a box in the closet pretty easy.

You guys are acting like it is a Democrat majority precinct. If somebody hides a box in that precinct with hopes of changing the election, which party would benefit from a box of mostly Democrat votes disappearing/ being forgotten in a closet?

It was probably an oversight, plain and simple. I never can understand why people claim victory before all ballots are surely counted, then complain when they find out they weren't all counted and they aren't necessarily the winner. Every vote counts. If your vote was in a box, in a closet, wouldn't you want it found and counted?

If the ballots were out of election officials control they would be invalid. No way to know if they are legit, they don't count. It sucks if they are legit but that's on the election officials. It would be less if an issue if they had reported the total number cast before "finding" more.

  • The closet was probably locked, as we put them in a locked closet or room. If they were absentee, they usually are in their sealed envelope until we open it, right before running it threw the tabulator.

I agree If they weren't still sealed in their envelopes, they could have been tampered with and that would suck for those voters. I haven't heard of these were or weren't in sealed envelopes.

So ... Palm Beach is refusing to release ballot information mandated by today's court order ....

The courts decided they broke FL election law and went against our state constitution ... now they refuse to comply with the courts decision .....

No ... they are not actively trying to hide anything ......

    ...... bored-squared

BTW PB is where the box was found in a closet however that may be fake news, it may have been a sealed box of provisional ballot supplies, not actual ballots. I kinda believe this to be the case ... however PB is where poll workers where caught filling out "replacement" ballots in a private room with no observers ... there are 15000 more votes cast in PB than ballots reported ...

Why would absentee ballots be taken to the polling place? A teacher found them so at least one person who was not an official had access to them, not valid.

Because that is where they setup the tabulators. We (the head person with a volunteer) run them through the tabulator during slow times. If they were still sealed, they seal the envelopes in bags when recieved, Joe Smo finding them wouldn't render them void unless the seals were broken.

That is how we did it where I worked the polls. Other Districts in Michigan do it different. The confusion in Detroit during the Presidential election comes to mind. I heard how they do it from our head person and thought it was very inefficient.

In FL they wouldn't be ... they would be delivered to and kept at the county elections office, opened and tabulated there ......

Just from watching the news you can see that not every state does it the same. Heck, not every district does it the same in Michigan. I was surprised to see them taking California votes to a central "counting center" in locked briefcases. Van after van pulling up, people hopping out with briefcases and rolling them into the building.

Each precinct in my district tabulates their own and prints off two copies of each tabulators tally . Seals all ballots up along with the tabulator print offs and ships them to the county building, along with a separately sealed second print of the tabulator print offs. Those sealed ballots w/print offs are only opened if there is a recount. The sealed second print is opened by whoever officially counts them, state or county.

  • If the IRS can track every tax paying citizen in the US by a SSN - why can’t you vote electronically with no mistakes.....Oh crap - I forgot - who the hell can trust the IRS

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

I am sure its not unique to Fl but down here, every year, thousands of illegals are found (how many are missed) to be using stolen SSN's for work, to get DL's, and even benefits. Much of this being solved now that FL has gone to nationally accepted ID's/DL's with Federal checks at issue but it will take years for that to become fully implemented. IMO the next step should be to require this type of ID to vote ..... everywhere ...... like that will ever happen ......

All counties in FL are required to submit totals to the Capital by noon today ... Broward didn't even open their office until 10am so we will see .....
No matter what I see a definite recount for US Senate, Governor, and AGR from all this...... As I see it only the AGR Commissioner (powerful position here) is on the line and the Dem is a friends neighbor, she's an idiot (O Cortez with a cowboy hat) who has never worked in any AG industry and ran on issues already allowed in FL, like medical marijuana ... which was approved during the last voting cycle, mandatory background checks for firearms (controlled by the AGR dept. in FL) which has been law here for many years and reinforced by Gov Scott last year.... the only people who are less qualified for the position are those who voted because they saw a "D" next to her name and know nothing about her or the office she is seeking .......

Edited once, last by Orangeman ().

  • I am not really that well versed on voting officials in FL but at first glance it appears that the woman in charge in Broward County is at the very least incompetent and at worst corrupt. It seems that most of the political bickering is on the national level - doing away with the dead weight (heads) at the state level would be a great place to start.

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

  • Was it the same county in the last Florida voting controversy @Orangeman? If so, and it was the same people involved, they should hand those duties to somebody else.

Both parties have large swaths of uninformed voters that vote for a letter(D,R) and not the person. Dead people getting elected by Republicans, Rubio getting huge vote counts after dropping out of the Presidential race. Guys in jail getting a huge amount of votes...

Republicans elected a dead man, is that worse than dead Republicans voting for live Democrats? ?(

Holly crap .... Snipes just answered questions on national TV and couldn't even properly describe the process as outlined in the FL constitution .... she evaded and answered incorrectly while professing over and over again about she has has the position for over 15 years ....

    As far as history ...

Snipes was formally appointed on Nov. 20, 2003, to replace former County Supervisor Miriam Oliphant, who was escorted out of her office and removed from her job.
CBS Miami reported while Oliphant was in office, uncounted votes were found in a cabinet drawer, and the department went a million dollars over budget.
    Snipes was reelected in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Being an elected official it is very hard to just remove her although I expect that to happen after January ......

Anyone can search for the numerous problems over the years but Snipes has had several recent election-related incidents:

August 2016: Broward elections office post election results before polls close
CBS Miami reported the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office inadvertently posted election results 30 minutes before the polls closed at 7 p.m.
It prompted Secretary of State Ken Detzner to fire off memos to the Broward County State Attorney and sheriff asking for an investigation.

March 2018: Judge rules in favor of Broward elections office in voter fraud suit
The Sun Sentinel reported a federal judge cleared Snipes in a lawsuit that accused her office of facilitating voter fraud.

May 2018: Destroyed ballots in Wasserman-Schultz race
In May 2018, the Sun Sentinel reported a judge ruled the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office violated state and federal laws by destroying ballots from a 2016 Congressional race too soon — and while the ballots were the subject of a lawsuit against the office.
The ruling stems from Tim Canova’s bid to unseat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the Democratic primary, a race he lost convincingly. In September, Snipes approved the destruction of the ballots, signing a certification that said no court cases involving the ballots were pending.
Snipes said the action a “mistake” during testimony she gave in the case, saying the boxes were mislabeled and there was “nothing on my part that was intentional” about destroying the contested ballots.

August 2018: Judge orders Snipes to stop opening mail-in ballots in secret
Politico reported a judge ordered for Snipes to stop opening mail-in ballots in secret or before the county's three-member canvassing board to determine the ballots' validity.
“We appreciate the court’s order clarifying what Florida law plainly requires — that Supervisor Snipes and her staff must safely keep and may not open any vote-by-mail ballot until the Broward County Canvassing Board canvasses the vote,” a spokeswoman for the Republican Party of Florida told Politico.

August 2018: Vote-by-mail late arrivals in the primary election
CBS Miami reported the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office had late delivery on about 5,000 vote-by-mail ballots for the 2018 primary election.
