Asymmetrical Tires are those that the tread pattern on one side is different than the other side. They will always have something on the sidewall that says "THIS SIDE OUT" - or words to that effect. The purpose of using asymmetryin a tread pattern is to allow the tire to be pretty good at 2 conflicting things.
Superior wet traction
The main advantage of directional tires is that they offer great resistance to hydroplaning. The V-shaped tread design pushes water from the center rib outward as the tire rotates to evacuate water better than a standard tread does. This gives you the most wet traction possible.
Better handling
Most racing and high performance sports cars use directional tires because they have better traction and handling at high speeds.
I fully understand the differences in tires. I'm just wondering why you say to stay away from one of these?
I ran an asymmetrical Sumitomo HTR Z III 295/30ZR18 tire on my Base model as my third replacement rear tire. My only complaint about it was a relatively short life of around 5000 miles for a $200 tire. The stock Kendas sell for about half that and gave me around 10000 miles.
we have enough problems with hydroplaning and the rear needs as much help as it can get.

Well Tires-Easy.com screwed the pooch. They sent me a 235/40/18 General G-MAX rather then my twice as expensive Nitto 555 G2 for the rear. Guess I want be putting new shoes on the Sling this weekend.

I did... They shipped fast and were correct (fronts). They were out of stock on the rear so I went with Tires-Easy. It was also cheaper. They should change the name to "Tires-Easy-Unless-We-have-A-Moron-Pull-Your-Tire.com"
Wonder what hey are going to have me do with this 235/40/15? If they say keep it someone can have it and just buy one tire for the front.

After a quick search on Google, it looks like a 315 tire is typically at least $100 cheaper than a 345 tire. I'm not sure I'd want to pay that premium to get a tire just over 1" wider. Of course, I'm a price-sensitive buyer, perfectly happy with a Nitto 555 G2 315 tire for a little over $200!
Yea. Went crazy. Nitto 555 on front and toyo proxie TR1 on rear
The stock sl tire is the 255/35/20, and the biggest I went to on the stock wheel was this one - 285/30/20.
