Wheel lifting Supersling to Daytona

  • well I promised bkl and a few others two days ago that I,d send pics of the new pneumatic wheel lifts were offering as soon as I got my demosling with my new body kits loaded up on the lift and headed out for Daytona sunday eve .Well you can see from the pics we got an inch or two of wet snow that aft so loading on a skating rink was fun , but what o dint expect was the 45 minute snow squall i drove into on my way from london ontario to detroit. Well that was fun too first long distance haul on our new lifts in a friģgin blizzard.anyway to make a long story short i got across border drove most of the night and stopped in knoxville area monday morning washed off a ron of slush salt and sand vrime amd took these few pics i had lromised. Will get them loaded on my new site http://www.slingshotbodykits.com tomorrow morning before i finish last three hundred miles to bike week ! All on all it tows great ,straight as an hour at 70 mph for 1000 miles so far. The first pic is of it jist janging on hitch with air bag deflated.it sits about 9 inches off ground with no weight on it.byt next photos shows as soon as you back up to it tire ummediatwly lishes it rivht down to hround as bag compresse ti mechanical stoppand truck suspension squats down with load.Next you simply give iy a lottle roll back on clutch and itl drip right into the cradle on lift.wellthis is a hell of a lot easier on dry lavement then it was on that skating rink sunday aft.lol but i managed to still load ot myself. The yellow strap although rated to hold load of sling doesnt really have to at all the rear end is heavy enough to hold it in cradle while accelerating normally the strap really just holds it down from trying to jump up out of cradle say you were to hit rough rairoad tracks or something while aggressively accellerating. Once its in cradle you merely hit the bag with about 5 seconds of air and it immediately goes up to about 50 psi as the volume of of air required is so little.

Lifting the forks up past horizontal to tilling up a bit and you atop the air right there. At about 80 lbs it will top oit the bag at the me hanical stops to prevent over inflatinh it but its so rock hard then it provides no suspension so your best to stipiy at about 50 and the bag then provides additional suspension as you haul over rough roads. You dont want the rear tire anymore them abiut four in hes off the vrouns as anymore will start tolower your front spoiler .theres ne worries regarding the rear tire boum inh pver potholes and scuffing the ashpalt becasue at 50 lbs this is almost impossible to do but if it did the skid plates on the bottom of the lift contact the ashphalt not your rubber lol no wories there.just safety chain through rim and awy you go. As i get into daytona tomorrow ill get better photos when i get a chance to catch my breath.

  • wow.my apologies.have to stop posting in middle of night after a 1000 mile drive. My spelling is horrific! I will repostthat text above here so you wont have to guess about my rushed rantings.lol

  • how much tongue weight on vehicle????? I do not think Subura Outback could handle the weight of SS hanging off back like your truck??
I have built dolly for my application but really like your design.
But some have said the front tires wear and go out of balance pulling SS backwards??
Do you see that ware on your pulling???
And I would guess the tire compound of each tire would make difference on the wear of front tires pulling SS backwards.

Let us know more on your SS pulling lift??

  • hi Harley and rock

The tongue weight is substantial 710 lbs you will need at least a half ton pick up.Younger guys are going to think our method of keeping the wheels straight is not quite high tech enough for them, lol, but think back to the decades of towing industry I have experience with, it was only a couple decades ago lock steering and front wheel drives became popular, before that for decades all vehicles were towed from behind using the seat belt to tie the steering off.It works perfect on the slingshot as the buckle is attached to the seat frame and allows you to slide seat back firmly holding the wheel locked. I,ll post a pic of that shortly as I get on the road here.

  • Neat idea. Wish I could read that post better. I am guessing at what words I think you are saying.

Funny, he obviously used an Apple w/ AUTO correct, cause it F's up more words... :cursing::whistling: When I post from my ipad I need to go back in & correct all the time

I Have No more toys, just memories.... :/

  • I've seen vehicles towed like that many times. We used to do that very thing when towing a truck to the field with the tractor & implements. We would tie off the truck with the seatbelt the same way.

Of course, the truck wasn't moving fast either.

  • Question.
Have you considered having it raise up with the bag, then hold it up with a pin? This way there would be less usage on the bag plus enable it to be raised and pinned up if there was something wrong with power or the bag.

One of the trailer manufactures soured a lot of opinions on relying on a bag.

  • Slingrazor, your absolutely right we do recommend pinning. Realized on the over 2000 miles ive lifted so far this trip taking the long way to Daytona amd over to Orlando and back etc.that pinning the bag just short of max inflation would be a good idea.that way it can still add some suspension in case of a hard bounce
