When I do wear a helmet, it's usually because I want additional eye protection due to windy/dusty conditions or I need to get somewhere despite rain and then I do so as slowly as traffic allows.

helmet not required in north carolina I have a piece of paper in my glove box that the state patrol / dmv gave me to carry with me. when I went to the highway patrol office to ask them there was 2 patrol officers and 1 dmv officer (the one that checks weight on heavy duty vehicles) there and they all looked at me and said no ,the law had been revised at end of last year so if I didnt want to wear it ok, he then printed off the paper for me to remind officers if I get stopped for no helmet.
