  • I used it before it was good but takes some serious patience - I don’t know if they have your exact red match that you have. In the end I had a decent looking caliber in white. It woas “a notch or two better” than average for sure / but it was Not as smooth as I truly wanted. It worked for a while until I went big brake system.

  • Anyone?

I am looking for the paint numbers for the midnight cherry (2017) model. Not sure if @Painter or @mytoy may have it??

Also, when using the Harbor Freight gun, it tends to eject too much powder at times. I'll have the powder looking OK and consistent and then like a clump of powder falls onto my work. I've taken powder out of the jug so there was only some in there instead of half full and that seemed to help. Messed with the PSI of the air and a few other things. Is this common? Just something to deal with with a cheap gun? I did start out with probably the hardest powder (I think) to paint being that a wrinkle. Looked like ass where only half of it ended up wrinkling, but figured I got the standard paints in the bag LOL. Just not sure if others have had issues with the gun where it kind of throws up on your work.

Any help with colors would be much appreciated. I tried to find a list on the boards, but not having luck. Much appreciated if you know where it's at.

  • @SaltyClownNY I use also a Harbor Freight gun, to get the color (see picture) I use the Ultimate Chrome Powder Coating Paint and spray it on put it in the oven for about 10 min at 400 F (till it starts to become liquid shine) then I take it out and apply the Candy Red Transparent Red Powder Coating Paint over it then put it back in the oven at 400 F for about 15 min till it is cured.
Just make sure you have a good ground to the part when applying the powder coat.

  • The powder in the bottle needs to fluidize to flow, if you have too much in the bottle it will clump also if you jiggle the gun some to agitate the powder some as you are spraying I find it helps. I recently upgraded to the Eastman dual voltage gun, where I work wanted some things powder coated so we made a deal of them buying me the gun and some supplies in exchange  Every one is happy.

  • OK, so first piece was a disaster. Apparently I picked one of the hardest powders to use (wrinkle finish). Second one I did the rear shock support and stripped down the black and redid in white. Finish looks good, but the gun had just a bit of red in it still, so it's speckled just a bit LOL. Rookies.

Looks pretty good for learning on your first piece!

Yeah, well, all the experts I know started as rookies. So it's a good start.

  • Well said Jared... I knew fuck-all about TIG welding a few weeks ago, and here I am... stacking some solid Canadian dimes!

Keep at it @SaltyClownNY ~> each time you practice, it’ll get easier... That said, it’s looking great so far!

LOL... I keep telling my wife that!

10,000 hrs. That's a general rule of thumb of how long you have to do something to be considered an expert.
