Is there a way to direct a reply to a specific post? it seems that the "reply" button is found only at the bottom of a thread, AFTER all the posts. So, you (and the directee) have to address subsequent posts via naming the person to whom the response is directed. Yet, I am getting replies directed straight to me via email. so, how does that work? Sorry for the Newbie questions, but if it were obvious, I would have found it by my own self...

Easiest way I've found is to quote the post you're trying to relate to.

Yep, out there in the options section along with like and dislike icons is the "quote" icon. Go full quote or partial by editing the quote...

Ok. I see. thanks. But I am guessing this still puts the reply at the end of the thread and not immediately under the appropriate comment. here, of course, they are one in the same. But with passage of time, I am guessing the reply will always go at what is (at the time) the bottom of the thread. but this helps. Thanks.

No there is no option to reply early in the thread. I know what your looking for. You have to quote that person and then drop to the bottom to hit reply. I just flick my finger when I'm on a phone or tablet.
However the one thing that needs to be used is the "highlight" then click quote on the highlighted text.
This would fix some of the never ending quotes that we see a lot of.

However there is a new release of this software coming up and I have complained enough to them that it may be in the new release.

In the mean time you can very well use the "quote" feature and delete as much as you want of the post you are commenting on. I've used it and deleted pics of original post as to not bore the reader of navigating thru tons of comments. 2c

I've used it to bore the reader.

If it's like my tablet you hold your finger on a word and it highlights. Then expand the highlight to where you want it.

So I must be doing something wrong. I don't see a quote for the highlighted text. See pic

In the pic you're missing some buttons at the bottom of my post. I don't see the quote, rating, like, and dislike buttons. @rabtech?
Different format. They're selected from the menu bar (the dots & lines off to the right of your name in that pic). When selected, it pops up like this:
