  • I believe that you answered you own question......................... ..........also the belt will squeal if it rides up against either lip on the rear pulley. Bill

  • Oh, and one other thing that I failed to mention above where I have noticed is that the looser the belt, the more it tends to ride on the outside............ Bill

  • Things that I have learned: Sometimes I need to take a scrub brush and soap/water to it to make the belt quiet down. After cleaning, It has been belt tension that has made the most difference with the sound of our rear drive. The warmer our rear drive, the quieter it becomes, (in other words, the colder the ambient temp the possibility of a noisy belt increases.) (Also keep in mind that the warmer the belt the tighter it becomes.) Belt location on our SlingShot is only critical if the belt is ri…

  • Yea, the amount that this machine has depreciated in just four years is a little disappointing , but being able to say that we have owned our first year model since new makes up for it! As far as buying a SlingShot today, I would find it very hard to believe that Polaris is selling many of the higher priced offerings? Bill

  • Quote from edwardaneal: “ohhhhh goodie goodie!!!! Just placed an order for the MeanSling Sport Top - - - the wife has decided that she wants to ride with me when the sun is out if that is going to happen she needs a top. I have been looking at tops for my wife ever since I got Cage Free, but it must be easily removable because I like riding in the open. I considered the canvas tops like the bullet speed and the twist top, but I dont want the whole metal frame in the way when the top is off. Show…

  • We recently received the email, "Build your dream Slingshot and go for your ultimate Joyride", so I did. Back in 2015 our SL was the top of the line model with an all decked out price of 23,999. I came up with a figure approaching $40,000 just now! Bill

  • We ourselves are now getting ready to do a lil round robin tour through our surrounding mountains, (mostly single lane twisties), to check out the damage done from the fires that plagued us most of the summer, the thermometer is currently reading 18 degrees, though it should be up into the 50s by this afternoon. The main concern to be wary of during this part of the season is all the leaves that have become wet and packed, (currently frozen), down the center of the driving lanes.................…

You decided to take the car rather than the motorcycle in this case, sounds like a very sound decision to me! Bill

  • We had the Grasshopper out today and both become very disappointed when Justina noticed that all the black was starting to look like Bigdog's, going flat and loosing it's luster. Obviously I was a bit too quick on the trigger in praising the ProtectAll, at least in this application, darn it any how. We will continue to use it on the seats optimistically hoping that it does protect them from water as it has been recommended, but the Pledge/Favor has been reinstated into the garage. Bill

Quote from Bigdog: “Most states have rules about vehicles with uncovered tires. In PA car tires are not allowed to stick out past the fenders. Spraying water back toward other vehicles isn’t safe. I like how a rear fender completes the look. ” So, are you saying that SlingShot is illegal right off the showroom floor? Really? Then you would be correct, at least where Oregon legislation is concerned, where each tire is required to have a fender. Though, with that being said, how many motorcycles a…

  • A primary purpose for our installing a rear fender was to help keep the rear "tub" area cleaner, in which we have since figured out is probably impossible due to the aerodynamics of that area "sucking" in all of that road spray. But the fender does help keep the larger debris from beating that area up plus gives the rear a more finished look so it does still serve a purpose. We have given thought to adding the extra splash guard to the rear of the fender, but Justina thinks that that rooster tai…

Being totally selfish here, what does having a membership card and being a member of Club SlingShot get us? It appears that it is all wrapped around getting associated with a local dealer, what if we do not have one? It looks like the only content on line is to check your membership, is there nothing more? Bill

  • Quote from Orangeman: “.The swing-arm is relatively thin hollow cast aluminum ... never place a jack or jack stand directly under any part of the swing-arm unless it is only to hold the weight of the swing-arm itself. ” Interesting, of course as you reinforced my previous statement, the SlingShot needn't to be raised to check belt tension. But, if adjusting belt location on the rear pulley, the swing arm holds the weight of the SlingShot just fine normally, a jack under the swing arm with a crad…

  • FYI, by the way, there is over 600 pounds sitting on that back tire, IF you do decide to do any adjusting, you are torquing to only 195 ft/lbs, just saying............... Do you have a maintenance manual? Bill

  • frehleycomet, what are you actually trying to do? Drive belt adjustment is far from being a precise operation, close enuff is good enuff. My suggestion would be to first check the belt taughtness while the SlingShot is just sitting there, belt needs to be "cold", (.63-1.0 inches between 60-80 degrees.) If that is OK, then leave everything else well enough alone unless you are having noise issues. If there are drive belt noise issues then just scrub the belt very well before attempting any adjust…

They will soon find out that made in the USA has been a big part of there sales. Be back to quality like we had when AMF owned them. ” Yep, being an USA product WAS a strong selling point for Harley, but later it became apparent that foreign vehicles were becoming better in quality. I used to be strictly a US buyer, thumbing my nose at foreign produced products, especially vehicl…
