Birth of the Bader Badger

The modifications continue to roll in from Slingmods and CycleSprings. They are arriving faster than the installation process ....

About this time we hit the first maintenance check so off to the dealership. Mind you, I've been on the forum for several weeks by now and am starting to get an idea of the issues to expect from our new ride. Asking questions to the service team at the dealership is met without answers and all to often without a call back. So, it seems like we know more then they do so we update the service team on the Heat Management Kit that can be purchased to help reduce the cockpit heat in the 2016. After arguing for a few minutes they look it up on line and what do you know, there's a Heat Management Kit that you purchase - duh. Despite the writing on the wall we order one and make an appointment for them to install.

By all estimations of (Dr.) Shawn at Nielsen (Memorial Hospital) the Slingshot should be released for transformation to the Bader Badger on Thursday. The transformation will take place on June 2 and around 9pm CST the first images of the Bader Badger will be released.

We, like some others, thought that we would keep the Slingshot stock for the most part. Looking back today, I'm not sure why we thought that - perhaps because we don't mod our daily drivers the way we have been mod'ing the Slingshot.

Karianne and I live just outside of Madison, Wisconsin. A tiny little community of less than 3,000 - Belleville. A little community that might remind many of the place the grew up. Everyone knows EVERYONES business, no fast food, a greasy spoon diner - a place where many still don't lock their doors at night.

For the most part Karianne and I have lived in Wisconsin the majority of our lives. Karianne works for the Dane County Sheriffs Department as a civilian in the County Jail - she done this for over 25 years. Me, I've worked in the insurance business for nearly 30 years .... nothing exciting, mainly group insurance for Wisconsin public schools and municipal employers We both find our jobs fulfilling (and certainly frustrating at times) when we

With the infection fully taking over our vision of the Slingshot we just had to spend mo money and get a few things ...

We knew we were on the right track when coming out of a store we spotted a rainbow. We didn't realize that it was just pointing out to send the pot-o-gold to Slingmods!

Our first mods were easy - added the Assault Media Console Sun Visor (although we found this to be far too small and later added the Cycle Springs / Slingshot Only sun visor.

In no time flat, we had added the Mo-Door In-dash Garage Door Opener with the double door option so we could open the winter storage unit as well.

The Aluminum Adjustable Mirror Riser Kit was a great addition for us so that we didn't have to slouch down in the seats to check for LEO.

Added in the Break Flasher for a little fun (I think I told Karianne that I bought it for the "safety factor" 8o

It was only a week after we picked up our super fast red Slingshot that the modification bug bit me hard.

We decided that the stock exhaust just wasn't throaty enough for us so we decided to go with the Bassani exhaust. We love it - just load enough that when you mash down on the peddle people know you are there but quite enough that you can drive through the neighborhood without everyone hating us more.

My financial advisor, my friends, my family, my neighbor, and even my therapist agree that this was the beginning of the SSMI (Slingshot Modification Infection). It doesn't have a long incubation period and the SSMI spreads exponentially through your vision of the Slingshot.

Like any good junky, I found several places that could satisfy my need for modifications - @slingmods and Slingshotonly. The next thing you know, I had an account and my credit card on file. And like any good enabler they made sure I got my "stuff" quickly and that

And now, for the rest of the story .....

It all began April 20, 2016 and it was all done on April 23, 2016.

Karianne was driving by a Polaris dealership in Madison after taking a different route home due to traffic. Low and behold she spotted a Slingshot sitting in the lot - it was love at first sight.

She came home that evening and said "we have to buy a Polaris Slingshot". I told her that she was nuts - we didn't know anything about them, what their performance record was, or anything else for that matter. She just smiled and told me I have to see it and then I would understand. On April 23, she picked up her fast red slingshot that was made in Spirit Lake Iowa in January 2016 and boy was she was in love!

I'm pretty sure she didn't hear a word the Salesman had to say while he was going over all of the features with her. It didn't matter - she knew that trading in her Harley trike for the Slingshot would get us riding together and in a style that she was excited about.

In grand anticipation, of the soon to be released Bader Badger, about a week ago we dropped off the Slingshot at Nielsen Enterprises (Memorial Hospital) in Lake Villa, Illinois. She needed her recall work done (including a change to ultra fast red swing arm from the stock grey) and some extra pre-birthing TLC (like the Polaris security system).

Unfortunately, a call from Dr. Shawn (Chief Mechanic) at Nielsen Memorial Hospital stopped us in our tracks. While preparing to preform the swing arm replacement a leak was found in the rear. Additionally, the pinon was rusted and corroded. The doctor says parts are on the way - but there is no way to know if they will arrive today or in ... well you know ... two weeks.

Dr. Shawn did say that the install pieces from Dr. @Painter (Chief of Paint Wizardry) were absolutely beautiful and were an incredible addition to the Slingshot.

A quick call to the birthing suite to let them know that we wouldn't be coming in Tuesday and that Bader

Welcome to Lamaze class for the birth of the Bader Badger.

In just over a week the Bader Badger will finally arrive. You'll have front row seats to see the result of a year of planning and mod'ing. Most of you have been along for the ride with us since day one but in case you're new or have forgotten here's our story.

In the meantime, let's go back in time - let's see where this all started
